im going crazy here ! i have an i/o magic idvdrw8d IDE1008

firmware version 0052

it has been working fine. except i wanted to try and use it with nero now, instead of just dvd decrypter. but it doesnt work !

i try to burn some vob files to a DVDRW then i press burn and it makes these weird sounds... like its trying to read the blank DVDRW but it cant... and it just keeps trying (sounds like its reading then slows down...then reading then slows down, just keeps doing it!)

then after a while it gives me the messege that i need to put a blank media of some type!

so i put in a ridata dvd-r and it still doesnt work it just does the same thing i said before ! tries to read but cant ?!

do i need to update something ? or change some settings ? and how do i find out what service pack my xp has ?...

if i cant use nero to burn my movies what can i use that may work and is free ?

oh yeah, one more thing i noticed thats strange :

when i go to "my computer"

my DVD-+RW drive is listed as :

DVD-RW DRIVE (E:) ---when the tray is ejected

but that changes to : CD DRIVE (E:) ---when tray is closed and a blank dvd media is in it!

what the heck ! ??????????

but if i close the tray with nothing in it it stays listed as
DVD-RW RIVE (E:)

whats going on ??!! waaaaa my head hurts ... @_@

What Nero version do you have, I would try updating the Nero version to see if that solves the problem, what is the brand of the DVD-RW media?

nero 6 ultra edition 6.3.1.25

well i have good ridata ritek dvd-r 's and Nero wont let me use them...just acts crazy like it cant read it and spits it out after a while and says to put the proper media in.

and the dvdrw 's are cheap no name brand, cant use in Nero either.

but both work in decrypter
