This is driving me insane! I have a Toshiba Satelite laptop with the combo dvd burner. It worked a week ago, but for some reason now every time I put a blank DVD in it makes these noises, like it is reading the dvd for almost a min, then stops and then the little light stays on. The computer thinks there is no blank DVD in the burner. I dont understand. I went out and bought 3 different kinds of blank DVD's...Sony DVD+R, Maxell DVD+R, & Memorex DVD+R and it does the same thing with all of them. Ive used the Memorex before and had no problem. Its really weird because the burner makes regular music cd's, just not working with the dvd's. I use shrink then burn with Decrypter, which has worked great in the past, but is now saying Device Not Ready. If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it! Thanks!!!

There may be some easy fix, but it sounds to me like it is time for a new DVD burner.

Its and internal one on my Toshiba laptop. Should I just bring it to a BestBuy to fix it or just try to change it?

I'm having a similar problem...

I have a lite-on dvd dual burner... got it in Feb., worked like a charm. Then out of no where it decided it didn't want to read blank dvd's anymore. It starts reading, then grinding (doesn't do w/ origional store bought movie dvd's... just blanks) reads & reads & reads then spits out this no media present crap.

so I call tech support (don't waste your time) they tell me to download a firmware download but neglect to tell me that I need to disconnect any other cd drives before installing it. I install it, my comp resets & suddenly while rebooting it does not want to load windows anymore.

A friend of a friend ownes a comp rfepair shop, tells me the DVD burner is totally shot, motor blown or something but manages to fix my computer & has it running like a charm. So I buy another DVD burner (same brand different model) slap it in & it seems to work fine. It's reading the blank disk, acknowledging it's there so I click the burn icon then a write error... no matter what I do it won't burn anything.

I've reinstalled the software it came with, I uninstalled that & installed the software that came with the last burner & NOTHING but a migraine... just keeps giving me the same I/O error & the only phrase the idiots at tech support seem to know is "Our products are flawless... the problem has to be somewhere else."

For the love of God... does anyone have any ideas?

I use a LG 4082B Dvd writer and I have the same problem,, At the moment the way I overcome this problem is to start the pc with a cd with data on it in the drive, I have tried it with an empty media but then it does not work.

I just read that if you insert the media in the drive press ctrl and shift. Apparently something locked the drive and this is he way to unlock it,, did not try it myself however..

Let us know if this helped

well I had to drop my comp off at a shop to get it running again & the repairman told me my DVD burner was shot... motor burned out or something.

so it's on it's way back to the company to get repaired.

Man, Lite-On puts you through some shit before they'll let you return something that's broken. a week on the phone w/ tech support, & they finally gave me the info to return it. They have to authorize the return & give you a number to put on the box you return the product in or else they won't accept the package.

This stinks!!! A friend of mine just gave me an external LiteOn burner and it works like a charm. Its still annoying that my internal one does not work.
By the way, the CTRL + Shift does NOT work.

If is still under warranty, have whoever you got it from, look at it. It really does sound like the burner is roached.

My warrenty is up....of course, thats when everything always breaks! I was thinking, the last time I burned something with Decrypter, it asked me if I wanted to update it, so I did. That was the last time it recognized the blank dvd's. Could that be it?
