I use the same method to install key launcher. I even install usb advance to matrix infinity manager. But it just give me blank screen, and no blik from the HD's led.
I just got e-mail from matrix infinity, they 99% sure that I have a fake mod chip. I can't do much about it, since even the store employe where i bought my pstwo dont know what is matrix infinity.
Is it possible that my mod chip successfully does it's job on other program but failed on USB advance?

Quote: Do we have to format the disk first, to make USB Advance work? Or even without a HD USB Advance will show something like user interface or some text?
I downloaded USB Advance and burned it correctly (the same way as i burn games) with Nero, and then I putted it into my PS2. The PS2 recognises the disc(the screen flashes once, as it always does when I put a gamedisc into it) but the screen stays black after this.
I have thick PAL PS2 with neo 2.2 chip wich allows me to run backup cd-r's. I have tried to boot it with both AR Max and Mega Memory original CD's.
My question (as in the quote): Do we need to have the harddrive plugged in to get a user interface with USB Advance?
If not, what's the solution for the "black screen" problem?

I have the PS2 Slimline (v14) SCPH 75004 PAL. I put the crystal mod-chip 1.1, and i can play now ps1, ps2 original & backup games. I want to play via usb HDD, games that are compatible with USB Advance or USB Extreme.
I' ve done everything i read in this forum, but i always have the following problem!
I ripped a PS2 game to HDD, compatible with USBAdvance.
When i run USBAdvance in my PS2 is saying something like: "no divice is in USB port". So, when i put the external 80GB Western Digital USB HDD with a game on it, the console recognice it correctly!
Then, i choose the game installed in my external usb HDD, and i sellect "Start". After that, it tell me "Please wait ... loading title". At that time the USB Advance, the USB HDD, and the consol, are freeze until i reboot the consol.
Why that? Does anyone can help me on that?
Mary Christmas.

I own both "usbextreme" and "swap magic with magic switch pro v2". I thought using the usb hdd sounded like a good idea, so i bought usbextreme. After using it for 6 mos i now think it's pretty much crap (game compatability sucks dog nuts, and the load time & demo screens are slow). I bought my son swap magic with magic switch for xmas, and i am much happier. All the games that didn't work with usbextreme work with swap magic. It's a shame that swap magic only supports 4 games at a time from usb hdd, but i'll suffer and manually swap the discs. The only complaint i have is with magic switch. I am ordering a flip top this week to replace magic switch. It's just a wee bit too mickey mouse for me with kids using it and the lid open.
you can order either from www.gocybershop.ca
check out usbextreme game compatability here:

Hey, I don't know how old this thread is, but I just got into this, and have had some success. I am using SM3.6 and USBExtreme to install games and USBAdvance with my Slim PS2.
I just wanted to say that partitioning your HDD into more than one partition works just fine. I have mine in 2 partitions and use one for the PS2 games and one for computer data.
I put my PS2 games on the first of the 2 partitions. Not sure if that makes a difference, but it does work.
Thought i'd comment.

Hey,
The sites down right now but I believe you can find it at http://www.sksapps.com Since it's down I forget the precise area it's located in (I imagine some sort of 'HD' section) but just browse and you should find it fast. post it here when you grab it.
Good luck!

Okay it's back up, but unfortunantly I can't find a PAL version.
Perhaps there's a program that can change it?

Okay everyone i am bit lost here. I was reading the step by step guide of meyer_m it is awesome but i've been trying to get my PS2 to run at least one game with USB ADVANCE but i failed. I have already gotten to the point where USBADVANCE detects all the games (Compatible games according to the list), Once i press to play a game, it HANGS there and nothing moves.
My ps2 is fat V9 console, Modded with Messiah (Some version). Runs all the backups,! where did i go wrong? Can ya guide me out of it?
Also i must mention that meyer_m's guide says there is something to do with PS2 TRAY, and must use some modification to let the PS2 know that TRAY IS NOT OPEN. but it is not open because USB ADVANCE CD is in the drive. Please help me out!.

You need the following items:
1. A PS2 (obvious)
2. A USB hard drive or an IDE hard drive in a USB enclosure
3. Some sort of mod that keeps the PS2 from knowing the drive is open. If you have a thick PS2 I recommend Slide Tray and if you have the slim PS2 I recommend either ghost switch or magic switch (all these mods are cheap).
4. USB Extreme or Advance (no difference except USB Advance is free)
5. If you selected USB Advance which you can download for free (just type it into google) you will need to be able to boot a backup disc by using one of the following: A modchip or an actual copy (no downloaded copy) of Swap Magic
6. Once you have everything you need to download the client software for usb extreme here: http://www.hdadvance.com/download/USBeXtreme.zip
7. First, plug your USB drive into your computer and wait for it to load up
8. Start up the USB Extreme software (note: this can be used for USB Advance so don't worry), go to the disk format tab, select format, and then click the USB hard drive that you hooked up.
9. Once that is done click on the games installer tab, select the cd/dvd drive that your PS2 game is in(which hopefully you have put in by this point), Tell the software whether it is a dvd or cd, select your USB hard drive, tell it the name of the game, and finally, hit start.
10. The game installation could take a-while depending on the game but once it is done eject the USB drive from your computer (if you have write caching enabled) by clicking on the safely remove hardware tab in your icon tray and selecting the drive (this is very important because if you do have write caching enabled and you don't eject it this way you're entire game(s) will be erased from it).
11. Plug the drive into your PS2, if you used USB Advance and you don't have a modchip be sure to put the swap magic disc in first.
12. Once you have USB Advance loaded up you should see your game on the list, select it and press play.
13. If the game is compatable enjoy!
Hi, I have a question... For step 3, if I have a modded ps2 slim, do i still need the magick switch??? Cuz, as far as i understood this thread, you just have to plug the hdd (after you format and install the game) and turn on your ps2???
Srry, I'm new doing this... I just don't wanna do something wrong...
Regards

Yes they will. Create a directory called SWAPMAGIC. The first elf that you want to boot should be renamed to SWAPMAGIC.ELF. In my case I use ULAUNCH so I can select other ELF's to boot whenever I want.
I have a fat ps2. I have an internal IDE hard drive in it. I also have an external USB (maxtor) plugged into it. The USB drive can contain the ELF files required.
You can also use a small thumb drive to place all your elf's onto. This is what I do because it's easier to make modifications by simply plugging it into the computer and moving files around.
Woah... just noticed, old thread.
