Ive got a CD-R here that has no copy protection. Its very precious, and a new master needs to be made. As far as I know, its the only one in existence and the band broke up. It is a studio recording, but it was mastered by an amateur, but Im not a professional either. Im just picky...

Now for the issues...

1> Im getting audible pops from the CD, but only on the rips, playing the disc directly has none. The disc has no copy protection, its just a standard CD-R the band had burned for me. There were no errors according to EAC.

2> The disc has far too much bass. Should I try using something like cool edit pro to filter the bass out? I really dont know how to do that, but I can learn fast. The clicks seem to be coincidental with the extreme bass hits. The volume is signifigantly different throught the same system using just a basic player from the drive vs the rip. I only have the drive hooked up via IDE cable, no DO or AO.

3> The disc actually ripped silence one time that I used EAC, but I changed some options and got some music from it. What I changed, I really cant remember... I know... There are just a ton of options in EAC, I think I did the drive feature detection. My drive has no caching and no C2, but it has the stream thing.

4> The drive Im using is a generic DVD 4xMax DVD burner. It isnt great, and I have a few others around. Not sure if I should just try a different drive first... When there arent copy protections to get around, is there a signifigant difference in quality between drives of similar price?

5> Lastly, I want to know if there is a way to do this without purchasing more software! If your suggestion requires purchasing more software, its probably not going to work so well, try to think of alternatives if you think there are any! Thanks in advance everyone.

First of try making an image of the disc. that way u can work from the copy and keep the original safe. then if that works burn it to a cd-r and extract to mp3, wav or what ever format u want. after that i don't know how you should go about changing the bass and other stuff etc. hopefully sum 1 with more knowledge can help u out.
