full overview on my pc...
intel D915pbl board
pentium 4, 3.2 (not overclocked)
Swiftech MCX775-V Heatsink
80mm TI fan pushing average of 5200 RPM (cfm unknown)
1 gig DDR2
raideon x600 xt
90mm Tornado fan (112 cfm) - exhuast
average 80mm fan on...
side - intake
top - exhaust
2 lowerfront - intake
With case open...
Idle temps
cpu - 41 to 45
system zone - 34 to 36
Full load temps
cpu - 54 to 62
system zone - 36 to 40
With case closed...Way to high!!
i have spent a crap load of money on this computer
so i cant afford water cooling just yet. i just cant figure out my air flow, iv tried everything i can think of. plz if you have any suggestions...i am a sad person awaiting help from someone

I would say there is a 'fight' going on between the side fan and front intakes.
Try blocking off the side intake (with the panel closed and see if that makes any difference.
Also try the opposite aswell, disble the front intakes, and leave your side intake on and panel closed, what results do you get then?
Also is the temp, really an issue here and are you receiving problems due to it?
I had an issue with mine, my CPU fan would scream it's knackers off after 1 hour, this was down to my side intake being turned the wrong way round, it was exhausting rather than drawing.........

thanks for you ideas, i really apreciate it.
i turned my side fan off, and closed the case up.
it idle about the same
full load started hitting 59 so i stopped it.
Deffinately helped though, normally with the case closed it woulda been higher than that. so makin progress
when i turn my front fans off and side on the temps go up about 3 to 5 degrees.
i know my airflow has to be screwed up..the tornado in the back as my exhuast fan pushes 112 cfm. doesnt matter if i turn it off, on, or full blast. the temps stay the same. something wrong with that fan. but i cant figure it out...and i cant move it, cuz i cant fit a 90mm fan anywhere else but in the back of the case.

Yes, i did permanent damage to one graphics card. bought another one and this one is giving me errors sometimes when it startes getting really hot. and intel says the p4 i have stops working at when temps reach 68...on warm night she will hit 64, thats to close for comfort.

Also it does seem from your results that the side intake is doing more harm than good.

if blower at top of drawing is ontop of a pci slot than put blower right beside the videocard so it is sandwiched by the 2 blowers

Great idea there ddp.
Also your top fan maybe drawing TOO much away, as the PSU fan should be drawing away aswell.
Basically it sounds like you are drawing TOO much air out of the case BEFORE your other ones can fill it again, if you can follow me.
This actually 'loads' up the intake fans, and makes them inefficient.
However, the blowers idea from ddp should aid it quite nicely

never mind the psu fan but you have more air going in than you do going out so you are not getting enough air flow thru the system. try relaying the drive data cables to see if can get better air flow. also feel the cpu heatsink when temp is high to see if actually that high or not

Im going to have to get some new cables...the ones i got now have no slack so i cant route them anywhere but straight.
are you talking about he blowers that just pull air from one side to another...like a sideways fan
or
the ones that exhuast air out threw the back??
cuz what if i used both?

now this helps my graphics card
and i guess better cable managment would help total case airflow which would lower cpu temps, but other than cable managment. is there anything else besides liquid cooling for my cpu?

i reckon , i didnt read it all so pardon me. but im gonna try n draw somthin 2
1 80mm fan at the top blowing , 2 80mm fans at the front sucking , 2 80mm fans at the back blowing and 1 self choice fan at the front of the power supply as in the oppisite of the fan at the back. oh and a fan on the vid card is always important , zalman is good
wen i did this my overheat problems ended , oh and dw about the side case fan it ust disrups the flow (well for me it does) oh and if u dont hav those spaces ,m just ge tur drill out and some screws and start drilling the piss out of the case... the fan on the top is defintaly helpfull cuase ot air rises and the tp fan will dispense it

In my experience, lots of exhaust fans are good.
Intake fans are fairly useless.
With a 2 or 3 fan powersupply, 90mm or 120mm (better) rear exhaust fan, and a blowhole exhaust on top, you're pretty well doin' all you can...
Round cables will help.
Intake fans are good when they direct cool air at video coolers and CPU coolers, but can typically lead to roasted harddisks.
You want to have negative pressure inside the case, so cool air is streaming in continuously through all the little cracks & holes on the front of the case, past the HDs.
In your situation, removing the CPU heat from inside the case (not just re-distributing it) is the key to survival with the cover on - a whole new liquid-cooling industry has developed around this concept, initiated by these hot Intel CPUs.
Leave the cover off until you can rig up a liquid-cooling solution.
Your Radeon and HDs will thank you :^)

thanks guys...i really appreciate the info. this is up-to-date situation.
i took the clear left side of the case off and put it on the right side (cuz i cant drill threw the clear plastic without cracking) now theres an exhuast fan on the right side under the mother board.
tommorrow im going to to drill into the (what used to be the) right side panel and put 4 120mm fans as intake. then all my other fans as exhuast...right side, top, 2 front, and massive 90mm fan with 112cfm on back.
and im saving up for liqued cooling. once again i thank all of you.
P.S. - that easy bake oven is unreal. its what im going for but not yet there. i love it!

long ago had my case full of fans of all different cfm.. darn thing was a oven cause the fans were fighting against each other so I took all but two out.. had them same cfm.. darn thing dropped its temps like a rock.
Moral of the story... often too many fans of different power isnt a good idea.
