So I've made a couple DVD9 backups onto DVD+R DL disks, and they have worked fine in my DVD player. Today I made a backup the same way (DVDDecryptor to ISO image, burned image with Nero6), put it in and my DVD player did not recognize the disk. I went back thru all the options I might have messed up and realized I did not select Finalize in the Nero options. I don't remember if I had selected that before on the disks that worked.

Does anyone know, does Finalize need to be selected in Nero when burning a DVD9 ISO?

And more importantly... How can I Finalize this disk now? DVD+R DL are like $7 a pop and I would hate to make it a coaster.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi there,

I'm not 100% sure, but YES, I think you must Finalize your burns for a DVD Player to play them.

http://www.manifest-tech.com/media_dvd/dvd_recorders.htm

Much like "closing" a recordable CD, you must finalize a Video mode DVD-R/RW disc in order to be able to play it on a regular DVD player or computer DVD drive.

So I guess it's YES :)

Now to Finalize the ones that you burned earlier, here's what *I* would try:

Create a file called dummy.txt and enter a few lines of text, just so it's not empty. XXXXXYYYYYZZZZZ

Add this file to the root of your DVD and burn it, and make sure finalize it there.

I always burn CD-R and DVD-R so I'm no expert on adding new sessions and re-burning, but it just might work.

Anyone else gotta an idea ?

My 2 cents worth...

I have to name the file "dummy.txt" in reference to my stupidity? :)

Hi there,

Oh god no, don't take this wrong !

I did not ment that in anyway...

I used Dummy.txt because to me, a Dummy file = An empty file with no valid content.

I should have used Empty.txt :)

If I was born smart, I'd probably make jokes.
But just like you, I learned and was tought, so I never laugh at someone that asks a question.

I prefer to help, when I can !
