I am tring to back up Finding Neverland (store bought) I am useing DVD Decrypter, DVD shrink with Nero Burn engine. I use DVD decrypter then DVD Shrink and then burn the DVD with Nero 6. The DVD will Play on my computer but not my new (3 month) DVD player. I am using Sony DVD-R. The thing that gets me is a friend of mine made a backup on his computer useing one of my Sony DVD-R and it works fine. I am useing a Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631 16x dual layer. Please help this is my first time trying to back up a DVD.

What speed are you burning at?

What make/model burner did your friend use? Is it different than yours? Different burners use different firmwares which will give different results with the same media. Did I confuse you? :)

Burning DVDs at speeds higher than 4X/8X can oftentimes give very poor results due to lost accuracy and when the accuracy goes down so does compatibility.

I'd suggest knocking the burn speed down to 4X and see if that doesn't help the situation. If it doesn't we'll just have to reach a little further in to our bag of tricks :)

I believe the phillips burner (if it's a late model) will burn most 8x media at 12x and some 4x media at 8x if left set at max. Burn speed could definately be a factor.

Check the compatability of your standalone player to the media you're burning to.
