pioneer 109 copying speed problem

hi my name is mick i have a 109 drive which will burn at 8 speed when writing a file from my hd but when copying from dvd-rom to dvd-r it works fine at 4 speed but when i try 6 or 8 speed the green light on the drive flashes on and of and the total time taken to record is the same as 4 speed even though it says it is burning at 6 or 8 speed i'm using a samsung sd-616q dvdrom and ritek 8 speed disks which show as high as 12 speed in nero dma is on on both drives dvdrom and dvd-r on same cable i have also tried them both on master and slave alternately and on different cables but no difference also checked aspi in nero info tool and it says working ok can anyone offer a solution thanks i have also downloaded the latest firmware no help either
