Is there software to tell you if a back up that you just burned is a good one? I have a dvd9 (Memorex) that was burned using dvd shrink which used nero to make the copy. In a stand alone player when the disc gets to chapter 16 (out of 19) it gets alot of pixelation. I tried using File Test and Surface Scan in Nero and also Dvd Info Pro to check for any damages but both programs said the disc was good. Please advise.

The level of quality testing you can do on your burns depends a lot on the brands of burner and DVD-ROM drives you have to hand.

With most LiteOn drives you can use Kprobe, and Plextor drives have their own Plextools software. As you have Nero, you can certainly run the basic CD-DVD Speed test, look for a smooth curve with no drop-outs.

If your burner is one of the ones specifically supported by CD-DVD Speed, then you can run the much more informative Disk Quality Test found under the "extras" tab in CD-DVD Speed, the level of info reported is model specific.

Be aware that the results from your scans are really only comparable with those of other media scanned on your setup. Most people use scans like this to troubleshoot or refine their media, systems and techniques by experiment.

Searching for the software mentioned above in this forum, or generally, will tell you all you need to know.

Hi there,

One test I like to do is run it into DvdInfoPro.

http://www.dvdinfopro.com

I run the media test.
It's not an in depth test, but at least it will go throught every sector and see if at least it's readable.

We had a few burns where the DVD would freeze and skip, and noticed several read errors in the DvdInfoPro read test.

My 2 cents...

This is exactly why I keep saying "stay away from Memorex." Why don't you use the Verbatim DVD+R DL instead. Other highly quality single layer media are Fuji, Maxell, TY, Verbatim, Sony and TDK.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Alkohol - My question was more geared towards why Nero and Dvd Info Pro did not find any errors on the disc, not why there was an error on the disc (using Memorex media). I have since tried VSO Inspector and it did find some read errors on the dic that was in question - Thanks to cougar_ii and everyone else.
