If its an audio channel, just get a sound card

You believe something happened to your MB...please explain what, "how", etc., and what is not working at the present time...just the audio? It could be something that will continue and cause other cards to go as well or just this one thing that will or can be corrected such as the logical suggestion by Oriphus. :)

I turned on the PC and saw that something was literally burning inside (it only burned for a second or so). Turned out to be that thing on the picture where the arrows are pointing - the bottom one with the white background. Getting a cheap soundcard is probably better than getting a whole new MoBo, right??

I?m a bit lost... what picture with what arrows are we speaking about?

I always figure that it's better to determine what went wrong in the first place, especially since there was SMOKE, before going any further with a fix or solution. I/m not saying that just a card will not work, but it sure would be nice to know what happened in the first place before we burn the house down... <G>

Yeah, to be honest, smoking in my PC is not something id want. Why not gt yourself a digital PC monitoring system for temperatures inside your computer. They are only about £15 and will monitor the CPU, HDD, RAM and possibly the board....

As ScubaBud states, other problems may arise.

than get a soundcard & disable the onboard soundcard in the bios. hopefully nothing else was damaged but keep an eye on behaviour & stability of windows & the computer

Hmmmmm, it would be nice to trace where that component leads to.

Looking at it closely, it looks like the legend suggests it is marked beginning with 'L'.
If so, then this will be an smd inductor, very strange for this to burn out, and the only real way this could burn out is if (where it traces to) has been overloaded, maybe a speaker or microphone (maybe they have been cross connected).

Have you checked to make sure those jumper links are configured in the correct place, and also do you know what the end 2 pins are stipulated for?
You will need to check the mobo manual on that.

However, as suggested, disable the onboard and put in another sound card, but I would be tempted to cut out that fried component (whilst the power is off of course) to eliminate any further fire hazard occuring with that component.

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

damage is done as that is a choke chip which appears totally fried. that jumper assembly is for sound output to front end of the case if cable attached in place of the jumpers
