Which manufacturers DVD-R drive can use in Latitude?

I have a dell Latitude c640 and i wish to upgrade my CD-RW to DVD+/-R or RW, but what i want to know is do i have to buy an original dell model or can i buy one from another manufacturer? I ask because the current drive i have is encased in a plastic housing which i have not seen on any other drives.

Does anyone know if i can buy this housing from somewhere and then fit my own DVD-R into it?
