Recently, I have had programs on my desktop not work. They would say that windows is unable to load and ask for the install cd. I have done this twice so far for, Recordnow Max and MediaFace software. The only change I have made has been the Beta version of Peerguardian 2. Has anyone else experienced this where a program suddenly requires the install cd inserted into the cd drive to function? Also, I am now receiving notices in my taskbar that Install Shield Update Manager is requesting to update for software on my PC. Inever had this icon before. I run Spybot and Adaware, so hopefully this isn'y spyware. DO I need Install Shield Manager?

To tell you the truth this seems like more of an OS glitch than anything else, you might just want to try re-installing the OS (not clean install though). It could be one of those system files getting corrupted accidentally or something. I'm almost certain that this would solve the problem.

Are you aware of any programs you have installed that are set to receive automatic updates (exc windows)?

I am a recordnow user of several years and have never come across any of these issues with the program.

Install shield manager is usually launched when you have a cd in and has the autorun in there and linked into the setup action.

Have you recently copied a cd to your root drive, which includes the autorun feature and not placed it inside a folder?

Just a thought....

Oh, I thought you were saying that windows was asking for its installation CD. well if the program is constantly asking for it's install CD, I don't know what the problem is, I only use Nero. You could probably try the Alcohol approach and see if that will solve the problem.

I did a little reading and found that someone had this program bundled in with Zone Alarm. I remembered that I recently downloaded an update from Zone ALarm. Hopefully, they will not be doing this in the future without notifying people if they are doing this. Anyway, I deleted the program from my Add/remove, but it still is in the control panel.
