I searched but couldn't find specific answers to my problems. First of all, will a messiah chip read a dvd+r DL disc? Anyway, I'm trying to copy champions of norrath, I noticed it was 8gigs after I made the image using alcohol 120%. So I ordered my dvds, but alcohol won't read them properly or something. It just gives me a wrong format error when I try to burn. I know my dvd burner burns dual layered discs, I made sure it did when I bought it for special situations like this. I'm wondering what other programs I could try and either create a new image file or just use the .mds/.mdf files from alcohol and try it again.

Of course if my chip won't read +r's, I guess it doesn't matter lol.

Thanks.

You should check the manufacturers website about if it will play dual layer back ups
The only 2 chips i knew that would were the DMS4 Pro and Matrix Infinity due to new flash upgrades.
Try DVD Decrypter, their website says it will do DVD9 (dual layer) discs. And it's free.

I upgraded alcohol, it still wouldn't work so I did get dvd decrypter. It was my dvd drive, I had to flash it and now it burns them correctly.

I burnt the image succesfully in alcohol, and the game goes through the Playstation 2 load screen, and the first title screen of Norrath, but then kicks me back to the browser with my 2 mem cards and the play disc. Should I try burning it with something else or can I just not play DL discs?

*Edit* Oh and, the first time around I should have done a search for Norrath not just dual layered discs. I found this info about the messiah 2 (clone?) chip, "The updated version of messiah 2 clone for PS2, compatible with V0-V8,(include 10000-15000)it woks very stably, and supports PSX/CD-R; PS2 backup/import/DVD/DVD-9/Original games.", makes me think I can do dual layered discs if thats the messiah version I have. I just don't know why it kicks me out at the title screen, if it's just a dvd problem I would think it wouldn't get that far or would just play. Any more help is definitely appreciated.

Glad to hear it was just firmware, i forgot to mention that one.
As far as modchips playing DVD9 that if pretty new, so if you haven't flashed the chip with the newest upgrades, i would do that asap.
I know the DMS4 Pro chip just released their flash to do it within the last few months and it was one of the first one's that could play DVD9 backups.

Any idea how/where I upgrade a messiah chip? I have a messiah 2 so I "guess" it will read dvd9 right? Atleast that other Ad about it said it could. Like I said it gets to the title screen but then kicks me back to the browser screen. Not sure whats going on.

Well steimy. Im not 100% sure but I thought most mod-chips only patched the booting procedure at the beggining of a game, so if thats true it wouldnt matter if its multi-layer am i wrong?

Thanks for the assist Hursty. I knew that the Matrix Infinity and DMS chips had flashes, i thought they all did? I would never buy a chip that i could not get flash upgrades for or you will never be able to get new features added. Such as playing DVD9 (dual layer) games.

That i do not know either. What i do know is that swap magic can't play dual layer back ups. And only the chips that have features added within the last few months can play them. Like the DMS4 chips, and Matrix Infinity.
