Hi there,

Based on a few posts I have read withing the last month, here's a quick list of drive, in no particulor order:

NEC-3520A <--- Real cheap prices all over America
NEC-3540A <--- I think this is the most newest drive from NEC
Pioneer 109 (This drive has NEC chipset)
Plextor-716A (And all other Plextor, SATA, USB etc...)

These are the most popular.

Other less populor but heard good about:

LG-4160, LG-4163 and the latest LG models
LiteON
Sony

Father in law has the NEC-3520A and it supports burning DVD-R at 2x. To me it's important because I burn everything at 2x.

I have the NEC-3450A (Dell OEM) I am told equivalent to NEC-3500.

I had an other drive and the min was 4x for DVD-R.

Just tought you should know !

Good shopping !

A little biased in your sig., Shoey? LOL High fives. There is only one Cadillac in burners. Plextor.

Okay, okay. I know there are some others that are great, too. I am just biased. :)

Actually the BenQ models I listed give Plextor a run for their money.
Of course the Plex is the faster reader, backups more cd protection than the BenQ drives but the BenQ dvd burners I listed do amazing quality writes with compatable media. I'm considering purchasing the BenQ DW1640 :)

Asus K8N nVidia nForce3 Pro 250 GB, Athlon 64 3200+, Hitachi 80 gig SATA 150, Corsair XMS 1 gig PC4000, ATI Radeon Saphire 9600 Pro (256 DDR), Windows XP Pro (64 Bit),Lite-ON SOHD 167T,, Plextor PX-712SA,BenQ 1640.

ROFLMAO! I did think about dumping the Sony, but all that I use if for is reading DVD's. I know that there are faster readers, but it has not given me any problems, thus far.

I really would like a faster reader, and I know that I spend more in a week on beer and smokes, than a Lite On would cost. Now you got me thinking. :)
