I have a friend who has a video camcorder from Europe and he has the mini tapes from it and would like to have the home movies put onto a DVD that he can watch here in NTSC Land.
I was wondering if I could help him out, by getting him to make a VHS tape of his mini tapes, then giving the VHS to me and I could use my VHS to DVD converter I have to capture the video to a file on my hard drive...then use Nero to burn the DVD and specify NTSC output.

Would this idea work?

Sounds to me like it would work.

Convert PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL------>http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/167922

It will probably work; but you will lose 10 to 50% of the video quality and there is a 60% chance that the sound will be out of sync. You usually have to stretch the sound file to fit.

Being from accross the pond myself, living in good old USA, I have had the same problems. What I found out is that PAL to NTSC or vice versa is tricky business. If your idea works, please let me know, but I have a feeling you might run into some problems. And mbird9999 is right, you'll probably have to stretch the sound file out a bit.

why dont you just get a dvd player like this one that lets you play PAL, NTSC, and all reigons. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000A0AJH/sylvanelfcom-20... here is an article that shows this will work http://www.damnthatscool.com/Comments.asp?BlogID=2181

Thanks Rhino, I appreciate the links. I'll go and do just that. Many thanks, Duke.

I guess my friend has trouble hooking up his PAL camcorder to his NTSC VCR...it don't like the connection...lol. Damn so much for that idea.
