Hello All,

I have a movie that came on 2 discs, so I have two VOB sets. What I want to do is join them, then use DVD Shrink to shrink it down to 1 DVD. How can I accomplish this? I believe I would need to first join the VOB sets. If this is incorrect, or there is another way, please let me know.

Hi there,

DVDShrink should be able to do that for ya in 1 shot. (I've never done it).

Use the Re-Author feature of DVDShrink.

Add the 1st set of .VOB, then the 2nd set.
Shrink it to 1 x DVD5.

See if that works !

I've always used DVD2One. I like the fact that there's a smooth transition between the two discs. Also the result will be a Single title set rather than two titles as by using shrink. Keep in mind that in either case there will be no menu.

Ripp first part of the DVD to your harddrive..This is your file..shut down DVD Shrink..turn your DVD over..re-start DVD Shrink..At the top you will see..OpenDisc OpenFiles..Go to open Files find the file u just made
Click on it to put it back in DVD shrikk..might have to analize it again..don't worry DVD Shrink will do that..After thats done click on that part of your movie to put it in the Left side of DVD Shrink...Now after this is done..click on OpenDisc..Now this will analize..now just click on that part of your move & put it on the left side of DVD Shrink..Right under the File part u just added..
WaLa you have your 2 sets of VOB ready to burn to one DISC be patient could take a while depending on the amount of shrinking it has to do

Yeah, I kind of had a brain fart on this one, I realized that yeah I could use DVDShrink to accomplish this. I use DVDShrink a lot, and I'm not sure why I didn't realize that I could do that at first :)

Thanks

Now u can use IFOEdit to make all 1 set of VOB's so u don't have that short hesitation between your 2 sets of VOB files..just keep your VOB's set 1 & 2..Discard all the IFO & BUP..I alway put them in AUDIO_TS..till I'm done..Rename your second VOB's in sequence (VTS_02_1.VOB to VTS.01_5 or what ever your last VOB is in VTS_01_..now u got 1,2,3,4,5,6,etc All VTS_01_ in sequence..In IFOEdit click Create IFOs,make sure to put a check mark in the Destination directory box..in the 1st VOB of title-set box find your first VTS_01_1.VOB double click..then just click on OK..Thats it now u got a smooth movie

I followed rick5446's advice to use IFOEdit to join two VOB sets. It works properly for the most part, except if I'm viewing what was originally chapter two on the second VOB set and start fast forwarding (or rewinding), I'm now seeing chapter two from the first set. If I hit a chapter jump button, I'm back to the second VOB set again.

If I only play the movie, or just jump chapter to chapter, it plays the movie properly.

When I view the new PGC in IFOEdit, the column "V/C ID" (does that stand for VOB/Chapter ID?) goes from 1/1 to 1/28 then back to 1/1 when chapters from the second VOB set start. I'm assuming that this is the problem but I don't know how to fix it. I assume that after 1/28 the next V/C ID should be 1/29 rather than 1/1 again.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Hello there..rwarrior..I know this is a pain..but this is the quickest & easiest way I've found..after u have a so-so compliant DVD..now run it through TMPG DVD16..in source justgo to Add DVD video it will read your VIDEO_TS..ad as many chapters as u like up & to 99..or keep what u have..this will make u a new DVD,that will fast forward,go chapter by chapter..react as a normal DVD,in your player
I've had many different problems with downloaded movies..some won't join cause they are different code,or dif sound etc so I work with what I got & just keep experimenting, till it works
But I know this works
I had Be Cool that would not jump chapter to chapter or fastforward properly..it would always jump to the end & restart..if u just wanted to watch the movie it worked fine..so i tried what I'm suggesting here to u & it worked fine..AVERAGE Movie (it takes about 10to15 mins on my comp 2.2meghrtz)becool was 4.30 gig so it took about 20mins for TMPG DVD TO DO ITS JOB

Aaarrgh! This is really quite frustrating. Using VOBEdit I was able to modify the VOB and CELL ID's so there wouldn't be any duplicates, but that did not fix the problem. So I tried rick5446's suggestion to use TMPG DVD, but since I'm trying to join the first two discs of the Fellowship of the Ring Extended DVD's with no compression, the size is over the 8.5 GB limit and I don't see a way to bypass the limit.

All I want is to be able to have one PGC that includes the entire extended FOTR and plays properly off the hard drive of my HTPC. I can't believe there isn't more documentation on this. Am I missing something? I know people do this successfully for old "flipper" dvd's and I've done searches for that, but I have been unsuccessful so far.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!!

Just wanted to add that I did follow these instructions:

http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl

I still have the fast forwarding and rewinding problems I mentioned two posts ago...

Holy Shit..rwarrior..just the movie your trying to do took dvdshrink almost 4hrs to compress on my computer..you ain't gonna have any quality left if you try to put both DVD's on one Disc...just buy a dual Disc case.. you'll enjoy the movie a lot more..thats a really tough movie to much action..needs all the bits it can get...YOUR SPINNING YOUR WHEELS

Sorry rick5446, you may have misunderstood. These files are not compressed. I'm not burning any files to DVD. I want to play only from the hard drive of my media server. I just want seamless playback of this one movie sourced from two DVD's...
