I cannot get my dvd burner to be recognized in any of my burning software. I have a Dell computer with a Teac burner. When I open up my burning software I get an error that says that it cannot find any burn device on my computer. Windows finds it and it will play a dvd, it simply will not burn. I have had this computer for over a year with no problem. I checked for a firmware upgrade and there is none. Anyone have this happen to you?

Hi, first of all - hate to ask the obvious - are you sure it's a combo dvd-rom/burner or just a dvd-rom drive; Have only just tried burning with this drive or has burning never worked. Either way, what model so you have ?

Hi there,

This may sound like a stupid question, but trust me, I've seen a lot :)

Are you SURE this is a burner and not just a DVD-ROM ?

Give us more details on your system.
What's the model of that DVD Drive ?
What OS are you running, and what burning software did you try ?
Did you try the latest version of those software ?

With all or some of those answers, it will be much easier for others to help you !

Sometimes the most obvious is the answer....but trust me...it is a burner. I have been burning with this burner for over a year. I am using
Windows XP. The burner software is DVD Xcopy and I also have Roxio. My suspicion is that something I have installed has stepped on the drivers in the burning software. I haven't tried re-installing the software. I did remove the drive out of device manager and put it back in...no luck.
The model of the Teac is DVW58E.

Hi there,

1. DvdXCopy is OLD and may not like this NEW drive.

2. Roxio, still didn't tell us what version of Roxio.

Roxio v7.0 or v7.5 should/will work since they do not use drive support database anymore.
Quote:
NOTE: All CD and DVD recorders manufactured since 1997 should be supported by Easy Media Creator 7 through our dynamic drive detection mechanism. No drive updates are required for Easy Media Creator 7.
If you have v6.0 you might need a "Drive Database Update"

v5.x might also support it, but with a drive update also.
If I recall, v5.3.4.10v is the latest.

From the Roxio Website: http://rpp.roxio.com/drives/?page=supported_drives&search=Teac&OP...

Teac DV-W58EA
=============
Roxio v5.3.5.10i
Roxio v6.x + DU20030811 Update

Get at least one of those versions, and Roxio should see your Burner.

Personally, loose DvdXCopy, there much better software out there.
The problems is that there's no more support for it, will not work well with brand new drive, (as you can see), and burns at MAX speed which everyone recommends NOT to do !

Video DVD should be burned at 2x, or 4x MAX if you want the best results without freezing and skipping problems !

My 2 cents...

cheers cougar_ii, i wasn't able to comment much more as i've not come across DVDxcopy before, and i detest roxio (however used to use & like their old easy cd creator products till the dreadful 5.0 platinum came out years ago - then i switched to Nero and am still with Nero)

Hi again,

I use to be a Roxio person myself.

At work it's what use, Roxio v5.3.4.10 still

I loved Easy CD Creator v4.x and v5.x
I was a little ok with v6.0

But when I saw v7.x switched to Nero for good, and learned it properly.

Man v7.x was too heavy for my old P2 - 333 Mhz, it's all I had.

Loaded slow etc...

I am now a Nero person myself.

But you ever wanna try an other, you know, to kill time :)

VSO CopyToDVD v3.0.54 is quite nice...
