I hope I am posting in the right place; it's hard to tell sometimes.
I am still pretty much a newbie and have not seen this issue addressed with Nero Recode. When I use Recode; it plays just fine in a standalone machine or in a DVD burner, but will not play in a normal DVD_ROM drive; the computer does not recognize that a disc is even present. Is this a known bug with Recode? Is there a setting that I am missing that is causing this? I have burned with Shrink and Decrypter and the disc is read in any DVD-ROM drive without a problem. This is only my second post, and I want to thank everyone for sharing their expertise.

It's a matter of preference I guess. I have tried most of the other one click proggys and find Recode with AnyDVD to be the one I like the best. The files are there if I insert the disc into a burner and view, but nothing shows up when inserted into a regular DVD-ROM drive. This is not enough to make me stop using the program, I just find this a little annoying.

They play perfectly in any standalone I have tried.

I am currently using Verbatims DVD-R's, have used Maxell Gold tops, same thing.

I burn at 4X only.

The region code is removed.

I find it interesting that I have not seen this issue addressed before. Surely it is not only affecting me??

I have a liteon DVD-ROM drive at home, and it will not read a disc burned with Recode. I have also brought several disc's into work and have tried them in numerous machines, with different manufacturers, nothing. I originally thought my liteon drive was going bad, but that is not the case. It bugs me when things do not work like they are supposed to. Technology; ya gotta love it!

I'm at work too, but I do not think there are any booktype settings in Recode that can be changed. What few config changes that Recode allowed; I did not change. What would allow it to work in a standalone and a burner, but not in a DVD-ROM drive?

Got a storm brewing outside, power went off for a minute, nice to know the UPS works!

to babelfish. one of your comments was "don't use recode then". i see shrink as one of the best tools out there but, sooner or later it will be outdated. i see recode as a continuetion of shrink so, some of us want to solve any recode bugs because that'll be the tool to use when shrink is over.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I use Recode2 and really like it, used in conjunction with AnyDVD it works better and faster than Shrink, and it will continue to be updated, unlike Shrink.

Just to throw in my two cents. I have been using latest version of Nero Recode 2 with DVD43(Free) and have had excellent results. Back-ups will play on my NEC3520 burner, my LiteOn 167T DVD-ROM and my cheap Emerson stand-alone.

I use Maxell 8x +R disks and I burn at 8x....

If you are using DVD+R(RW) media you could change the booktype to DVD-ROM, this way it should be compatible with your DVD-Rom. Also sometimes DVD-R(+R) media can have compatibility issues.
To change the booktype of your DVD you should be able to do this in Nero-Nero Toolkit-CD-DVD Speed.

Just my 2 cents here too. I use Recode 2 & AnyDVD and with most all movies I can use "Burn at Once" and back-up my main movies in about 16 minutes avaerage! And, they all play back Perfectly! And, Yes, these 2 programs always get updated! Use good media, good readers & writers too.And update your Firmware!(If you have a drive/drives that will allow it.) Most all "OEM" drives are NOT firmware upgradeable. Buy the Retail Drives!
