I recently purchased a new computer and was curious if my old 512mb PC2100 Ram would work together with the new 512mb PC3200 Ram to make a 1gb? I know the ram speed has something to do with the FSB but I'm not sure on how to calculate it.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000 800mhz FSB
Mobo: Foxconn WinFast NF4K8MC-RS nVidia nForce4 Chipset w/LAN, 5.1 Sound, USB 2.0 PCI-E Motherboard

Wanna ask before i try because i don't wanna mess up anything. Thanks

hi!! usually boards that support ddr 3200(ddr400) also suport ddr 1600/2100/2700/3200 so using those to sticks together wont hurt your hardware but it will decrease your performance!

old mobos didn`t add two memorys with different speed.but todays mobos they do but the mobo will run by slower mem speed for example:
in your case will be 1gb ddr 266(2100) single channel maybe.
get rid of that 512 pc-2100 and get another 512 ddr pc-3200 of the same brand of the 3200 you already have even that affects performance different modules brands!!

hope i help

Awesome thanks for the help. Another question, if I had the 512mb PC2100 and the 512MB PC3200 together it would run as 1gb of 2100 Ram correct? Would that be better to do then to just leave the 512mb PC3200 by itself? Would i benefit from putting the old Ram in there to make a gb or am i better off staying with the 512mb PC3200?

don't even think of trying to overclock the board as long as you have pc2100 ram on it!!

Okay so I'm gonna go ahead and buy another PC3200 Chip....I'm thinking about getting a 1GB PC3200 chip and i was wondering if the brand makes a huge difference? I'm seeing some pretty inexpensive ones on pricewatch.com and was just wondering if I should go with name brand or if the generic ones are okay.
