When you are copying a DVD and using the method where you place the original DVD in your burner, rip it and then place your blank DVD in your burner to write the ripped file to should there be buffer action during both processes or is it only the second part, writing to the blank DVD that uses the buffer. I noticed when I do this say with nero during the first part of the process(ripping) the "Used Read Buffer" and "Buffer Level" bars are inactive, whereas when I am writing to the DVD there is plenty of action in these bars, i.e. green blocks populating the bars and a precentage displayed. Is this correct and why is the buffer not used during the first phase of the operation.

The buffer is inactiive while ripping because your hard drive is able to keep up with your burner. Your hard drive is taking the info as the burner is providing it, there is no backlog, this is good. When burning you want the exact opposite. You would never want the burner waiting for info while it's tring to burn, so an active buffer is what you want

But even in DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink there is a buffer level you can custamize. If you got the ram let it rock!!
