Hello all, Hopefully my newbie status won't fool ya'll ;)

I'm having issues with my USB port's not working (I'll explain as best as I can since it act's weird)

for the past few days my USB port's (I have 3) on my notebook will stop working for no apparent reason, i only have 1 mouse connected and nothing else.

Since this was pissing me off quite a bit I uninstalled all my USB drivers and restarted my notebook, well plug and play picked them up and installed all the drivers for them and everything was ready to go, but as soon as I insert my USB mouse I get an error saying my USB cannot be recognized and so on. The power is going through my mouse but the cursor does not move.

As of right now my mouse is working but as I mentioned before, all my USB ports will stop working. ANy ideas how i can fix this?

Have you got Legacy devices enabled in the CMOS?

Have you tried the mouse in the other ports, and does it do the same thing or is it connected with one port?

Have you tried any other devices in the ports without the mouse being connected?
It maybe that your mouse is drawing too much power (ie failing, faulty cable) causing the USB supply to be overloaded.

In Device manager are there any exclamation marks next to the USB sections?

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

Sorry...my options are limited in the bios and my "TouchPad Support" is enabled.

Yes I have tried the mouse in all three port's. I have 2 on the side and 1 in the back and all do the same thing once it fails.

The only other things that I have tried where other mouses...The mouse I am using is a Logitec cordless mouse, the recieve looks like a jump drive.

No exclamation marks at all, what ever port I connect the mouse to I get an unkown device and an error saying my USB device does not recognize balh blah ( I wish I could've take'n a snapshot)

If I had that problem I would go to the device manager unistall the USB root hub along with everthing else in that area in the device manager(USB) Reboot the computer and let it redetect the USB's on the computer(Ballon in the bottom right corner). If they are still messed up and they just started to act up, then Restore the computer back to an earlier time with system restore.Or reinstall the drivers for usb with your computer restore discs.Try other USB devices to see if they function. Is it a USB PCI card or they directly on the motherboard?

can you try a wired mouse instead of the wireless as it sounds like the mouse transceiver is causing the problem. can you try the mouse on another laptop not a regular computer to see if problem follws or not

That's what Im doing as of now, just a plain ol' optical maouse.

This might be true, also im guessing that the reciever of the wirelessmouse might be overloading the USB's as -baabaa- mention'd about earlier.

I wish I could but nobody I know owns a laptop...even if I did I doubt I would ever get the mouse back, kinda like people who smoke and lend their liter's out never get them back, hehehe

Hmmmmm, I am just wondering whether you have discovered on of these incompatibility problems with the hardware and Operating System.

What is your laptop?
What O/S are you using (looks like XP, does it have SP2 installed)?
There should be an option to enable legacy devices in there.
Is USB enabled in the BIOS?
Have you tried disabling the touchpad within the BIOS?

Have a look to see if your device is listed in the incompatibility section at microsoft as there maybe a patch available.

My laptop is an MWAVE custom built laptop.

Im running XP home with SP2 embedded so I can't uninstall SP2.

My BIOS is very very limited to options.

BIOS Options:

In the MAIN my options are "System time" and System Date"

In my ADVANCED I have "IDE Configuration" and "SuperIO configuration" and "TouchPad Support" which is [Enabled]

In my Boot I have only 2 options and they are "Boot Settings Configuration" and "Boot Device Priority"

And The other 3 tabs are just Security, Power and Exit

? I havn't a clue...give a little detail and I'll try my best.

This is what my specs are.

Another weird thing is, is sometimes my mouse will not respond and thats when my USB ports get buggy and I take the mouse out, but after a while I will plug the mouse back in and it will work.
