My old High School football coach ha made highlight films for the seasons for about 7 years now and he has always put them on VHS. Last year I helped him make the film and convinced him to go with DVD which he was very skeptical. We did it and it turned out great except for little skips in the movie. And without progressive scan dvd players it stops and won't play. We use Adobe Premiere to make the movie and we are guessing it has to do with a setting inside premiere. He likes macs so we had to use his mac to make the video. But I use my windows PC and copied the src to my pc and used my new external Sony Dual RW drive. We burned dvds @ 2x speed using both my pc and his mac as we had to make 70 of them. All discs from both mac and pc skips. I would like to know for next year on how to fix this problem. If any1 could help, it would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Ok its Saturday night here in the UK and before I start my second can, of super strong Danish lager. My initial thoughts were, the problem lies with the original conversion; VHS to DVD, I'd change this to VHS to AVI.
Run the AVI through a program like VSO DVXToDvd, which will discard the errors' and convert it into a flawless DVD..with luck :)
did a double check, 'while the can' thawed out

any flaming is a waste of time...there's a few more cans in the fridge, and I'll never remember this post.
Happy holiday

DVD Identifier says the manufacturer name is prodisc technology inc.
but It is a FujiFilm DVD-R
under the 'media code' -block TAB has the following info
** INFO : Hex Dump Of 'Control Data Zone'-Block Listed Below
** INFO : 4-Byte Header Preceding 'CDZ'-Block Discarded
** INFO : Format 10h - Format Information Of Control Data Zone
** INFO : Hex Dump Of 'Media Code'-Block Listed Below
** INFO : 4-Byte Header Preceding 'Media Code'-Block Discarded
** INFO : Format 0Eh - Pre-Recorded Information In Lead-In
I dont know if that it what u were asking for. I couldn't find anything telling me what the media code is. but that is what the program gave me.

I would suggest trying some better blank media. Most fuji discs are good but as you can see fuji does not make all their own media and some of their manufatures are sub par. Prodisc is kind of in between, it will work ok for some but not others. I would suggest (in order of preferance) verbatum (make sure it says azo dye on the package to insure they are made by MCC), genuine taiyo yuden, maxell, sony, ricohjpn, and branded ritek ridata. Stay away from memorex, no name brands, and retail store branded media (staples, comp usa, etc.). Here are some media codes for fuji dvd-r's. Like I said fuji is usually good media but apparently your old coach was unfortunate enough to get a batch made by a sub par manufacturer. Chances are the next batch would be the good stuff.
Fujifilm DVD-R 1x (RITEKG03....)
Fujifilm DVD-R 2x (TAIYOYUDEN..)
Fujifilm DVD-R 4x (ProdiscS03)
Fujifilm DVD-R 4x (TYG01.......)
Fujifilm DVD-R 8x (FUJIFILM03)
Fujifilm DVD-R 8x (TYG02)

ok so ur saying verbatim is the best dvds to use for video. What about encoders. Is there a way to use a better encoder after editing a movie in premiere to export from premiere to AVI or directly to .VOB if possible? Is .VOB its own format? or is it like cds with music that say .cda but are .wav files. I am trying to figure out how to get the best quality from my camera to computer and then to dvd. My camera is a sony handycam trv-70 and was $1300 and takes very clear video but in the end on the video ends up being grainy. Also there r motion problems. Like when the camera moves and and/or when something moves too fast. you see trails sometimes umm what i mean is the interlaced video lines get almost like there are being pulled apart like one to the left and the other to the right. it is a bit weird. I remember we with the exported video it would have those lines but then when u took that video and put it back on another premier timeline they went away. anywayz I hope im not getting on yur nerves with everything im trying to get your help with, if you could help i would be very greatful.
Thank you

Hi Mike,
I personally don't do much if any file conversions but know there are several good, even some free proggys and software out there so I am not really qualified to answer your question. I do however know that the key to a good dvd is good quality media and slow burn speeds. The #1 cause of freezing and pixelation is poor quality media and the #2 cause is burning too fast. Try better media to overcome your skipping problem and hopefully somebody more qualified to answer your conversion question will see this and post some answers to those questions. If not, start another thread asking the same questions you did in you last post. Sorry I couldn't help you more.

BTW the best encoder under $2000 is RB/CCE. RB (DVDRebuilder) is free but CCE Basic (Cinema Craft Encoder) costs $58. I believe the files need to be Video_TS (at least thats how I use it) but might work with other formats. I'm pretty sure it won't work with AVI format.
