Hey watsup guys?
I have a question. For some reason no one will answer my other thread, but this is not a repost, but is related. As u can tell by the title, i got a new Pioneer drive, and I want to know: is it more sensitive to PI errors than my Lite-On SOHW 1633s? I say this cuz I did two scans using DVDInfoPro on one DVD. The scan from the Lite-On had good results like 1 PIF peak, 18 PIF totals.
The scan from the Pioneer, however, was crazy, with a peak in the 200's. So wats up with that? Any help would be appreciated.

Buy An NEC 3520A and save yourself alot of problems. Best drive for the money, Burns 8xTy media at 12x.

You can't judge a burner on just one burn. You might need to try different media, + and - media , different speeds to find the right combination for your Pioneer. I've read nothing but good things about the Pioneer, I own the 1633 and wish I didn't.

Plextor and Pioneer are the 2 best burners out there. Your errors could be media related as PPower stated. As suggested try a few different brands of media. I burn nothing but Ritek with my Pioneer and haven't had a problem in over a year.

Thanks for the advice guys. However from this I have learned something interesting. The disc that gave me all the errors on the Pioneer was a Tiyo Yuden G02, and it was a backup of Res Evil: outbreak file 2. What I discovered is that it plays flawlessly. No idea what this means for the Pioneer--->maybe it can't handle error scans? I doubt that the medias fake, otherwise it wouldn't play so well in the PS2. As for u, ALAND, it's a bit late to buy the NEC 3520a, and plus I wanted somethin better than it. For the money that i paid for the Pioneer, i could have gotten 2 NEC's. Again thx for ur help guys, altho i still cant fig out the prob

How many discs did you burn with a peak PIF of 200? What was your burn speed? A disc that plays flawlessly, with a peak PIF of 200, shouldn't be considered a problem, should it?

Yeah, I guess it really shouldn't. So the moral of the story is: find what works for you, even if it appears to be Taiyo Yudens with high errors. And plus there really arent that many errors on the disc. You know when u start a PI/PO Scan, you watch the lowr graph, and then a huge spike ruins everything? Well i had several of those spikes on each disc. And to answer your question, I burned 3 or 4 discs with those error rates, but I guess its not a problem. Thanks for ur help

Like I said I don't own the 109 so I'm not sure how many errors are normal. Maybe Jerry746 could help you with some numbers. But as long as the backups are playing on your dvd player, I wouldn't worry too much

I'm still running a Pioneer 106D so my numbers don't matter. I don't even worry about running those tests. Once you find the right media and programs that your burner likes the best you find out that you will usually get great burns and playbacks. I know my burner likes Ritek media and my use of CloneDVD 2/ AnyDVD never let me down. I do switch around to other programs from time to time just to see how they work and to check different updates. Its all trial and error at first until you hit the magic combination. Once you find that combo stick with it.

Well thx for ur help guys(or girls). Heh well i just burned my 4th ot 5th TYG02 Disk on the Pioneer, and it still has a lot of errors, but still flawless on my PS2. Guess Ive found the right combo. Thx again

From what I have read (not direct experience) the PS2's are very picky about what they play. If your PS2 is playing your burns well then you should be ok on other players also. TY are on top of the list for blank media. That is a very good choice and should work well for you.
