i current pc has broken after i had the problem with the hard drives.
I have a budget of around £500 and was wondering if anyone knows of some good deals that i can look at.
I like to play games and so need an average gfx card.
i would like a large hard drive.

Thanks in advance

yea that HD should work fine.

for £500 you can get a pretty decent pc, especially if you dont need a new monitor.

go for athlon64 3700 if your getting a 939 motherboard & can afford it.

I have the 3800 and i was extremely impressed with its performance in games such as hl2 and farcry compared to my old ath64 3000.

if you cant afford that i would suggest the 3200 & the most expensive graphics card you can afford and 1 gig of ram (only about £50 if you buy 2x 512 and then u can run in dual chan also) in my experience cheap generic ram is every bit as good as that £150+ performance stuff.

obviously it would be a waste of time getting a nice ath64 3700 with a shitty geforce fx 5200.

depending on what games you would like to play (d3 or hl2 ect i would go for a minimum of either a rad 9800 pro at about £80 - 90 or one of the cheaper gf6's.

oh yea also, the difference between sata and ide is speed, sata is faster. and the cables you need should be included with the motherboard if it is sata compatible.

I am using old parts with new parts for my new pc.
This is a possible spec:

Abit AV8 SKT939 K8T800PRO 800FSB 8xAGP SATA motherboard
AMD athlon 64 3500+,
2 X corsair (1024mb) RAM,
My current Radeon 9550,
2 X western digital 160Gb hard drives
Audigy 2 ZS
Case-undecided
No moniter.

Does anyone have any comments on this. should i spend a bit extra and get a new gfx card?

Corsair Ram is the best. Just make sure when you buy more Ram you make sure it is compatible with your system. (PC 2700, PC 3200 ) etc.

if you want some good game performance then definately get a better gfx card, a 9550 has its limits and would be a little too slow for the cpu.

prehaps only get 1 hd for now and i would definately consider using cheaper ram instead of the corsair.

www.aria.co.uk does generic ram for around £24 inc vat for 512mb.

the differnce between performance ram and standard cheap stuff is literally 2 - 3 fps in games (and some cool looking lights if you pay an extra £100!).

with the money you can save i would then buy an 9800 pro.

but thats just what i would do :)

I am getting a good deal on the ram. £100 for 2GB.
I might not get the sound card as i have a sb live already(it just doesnt work with my centre speaker at the moment) to save some money. ill buy the parts soon and when i get more money ill upgrade the gfx card.
