Is there a way to determine which is the widescreen or theactrical version of a movie?

You mean as far as which titleset to burn??

If using DVD Shrink, in reauthor mode you should be able to click on each movie titleset and preview individually to determine which one it is.

Ya, you didn't mention which program you use. But another way to find out which TS is the WS and which is the FS, just put the original in your home entertainment dvd player and play it. Press "Display" (or similar) on your remote and you will see the Title Set, Chapter, and Counter displayed on your TV or Monitor.

There sure is "widescreen" looks wide and normal looks like a cheap TV screen. Although I dont know many people who have a normal TV screen anymore. People on my monitor look 20 Ft tall. There you go wasnt that easy?

Thanks for the help, however I ran into a situation where there were two title sets and when I looked at them in the preview window, they looked exactly the same. So, is there anything else that would identify what they are? I have read in some guides where they talk about one set being larger than another one and they indicated it was the director's set and the smaller one was the theactrical one. But they did not explain how they came to that conclusion.

The Director's cut is usually longer. Check it out on the back of the DVD's jacket/Storage Case or check out info on the DVD at the IMDb website. Then use the counter on the DVD player to figure which TS is which. Also, very few Director's Cuts are FS. What director would want their legacy on anything but a true-to-cinama WS version?

I have run into the same question with two identical versions. I do however believe there is a reason with either multiangle or possibly comments or visual text. I too was perplexed as on some disks you do have widescreen and normal screen but its quite obvious which is which as one is longer at the borders etc. However I have seen movies just like your discribing that have no apparent difference. I suggest watching the movie first paying close attention to the menu and see if there is a multi angle present in the movie or directors comments as these may disapear if you just copy one version. Im sure there is a reason for the duplicate.
