Is EAC burst mode bad because it rips tracks so much quicker. Does it use C2 error correction when this method is selected? Help is needed.

hey weazel,

burst mode is generally not recommended. unless you have a brand new CD with no scratches or anything on it, don't use burst. it is nice because it rips quickly, but burst mode does not utilize any error correction when ripping. (hence the "secure" mode method). So unless you're in a hurry or have a really clean CD stick with secure mode.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

I have decided to rip my entire collection using Burst mode. It is so incredibly quick. With secure mode it could take up to an hour just to rip one album but now it takes about 10 mins to complete the operation. Also with secure mode I would have to rip one track at a time or rip halfway into the cd first then go back to the beginning.

I honestly cant tell the difference between ripping in secure and burst modes. My ears are happy with that they are hearing. Besides if I want the best digital quality it would be WAV but that takes up too mucs space and MPC isnt that popular but with MP3 I can put it on my MP3 player and listen to music on the go when ever I want.

as long as there were no major scratches it probably ripped okay, so as long as your happy then cool. but my only point was the beauty of EAC is the secure mode, but yes, it does take quite a while to rip.

All of my cd's barely have scratches and the ones that do are very minor but still play perfectly well in my cd player. Does it take this long to rip in secure mode on your system. I could understand if my pc was old but i only got it last year and yet I get speeds of 0x or 1x. I don't have this long to spend on ripping one cd so it does get annoying.

The only querey i have with burst mode is on the log of some albums i have ripped it says there is a timing problem somewhere in the song. But when i play it it sounds perfectly fine. Do you know what this means. I hope it is nothing major.

when I rip in secure mode it usually rips at around 5-7X. It has to go really slow to verify its reading the information correctly. If there is a certain spot thats scratched or smudged, it will often go very slow over that spot and slow down to 0 or 1x, but it shouldn't be that slow for the whole CD. that will probably depend on your CDROM drive. I use a Pioneer DVDROM drive that I beleive is a 48X CDROM reader

I have decided to wait till I upgrade my pc completely. A couple of months away hopefully. I will go back to using secure mode. I will get a much better cd drive either plextor or another top manufacturer.

so you don't get the error with secure mode? in that case its probably ripping too fast in burst mode, and either the drive or other component isn't keeping up. I know its slow, but trust me secure mode is the way to go. And yeah, definately go with a good name brand burner/reader. TDK, Sony, Pioneer, Plextor...they're so cheap nowadays. My 4X DVD-R burner I bought almost three years ago was like $250, and that was a great deal! lol
