I've been backing up movies for a long time successfully. Running Windows XP with DVD Shrink, AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter, Nero, all of the standard stuff. Recently, out of the blue, my disks analyze and encode successfully, but then only write about 70% of the way and stop, saying that the disk did not burn successfully but that the files were all ripped to the HD successfully. This occured with DVD Shrink the first time, I went in and manually tried to backup the files to disk with nero, and got the same problem, leading me to believe its' a problem with the actual drive or software. Any ideas? Here is an error log from Nero:

Have you switched media?

This usually means your burner does not like the media. Also the media code isn't listed in the log. What media are you using?
You can also try updating your firmware.

Sort out DMA plus the firmware, and the ASPI layer

As for the media try dvdinfopro (free download) and click on the media info icon and paste here.

Thanks, I'll try updating the firmware...about the media, that's the weird part...I haven't switched! Using K Hypermedia DVD+R - have gone through about 80 of them, just started having problems!

yup, - here's a snippet (not an up to date list) -

KHypermedia DVD+RW 2.4x (CMC MAG.W01)
KHypermedia DVD-R 1x (CMC00RG200..)
KHypermedia DVD-R 1x (TDKG02000000)
KHypermedia DVD-R 2x (CMC MAG.....)

The CMC in brackets is arguably the worst, most apalling manufacturer of crap that there is. I'm gonna put money on you having CMC Mag disks

Download dvdinfopro (free) and click on media check icon and paste the details here

Glad things worked out!
Definitely switch media to TY or Verbatim. You won't be sorry.

Hey, creaky

Had a look at this thread, stood back from it to see how it panned out.

Firmware and not media........although I do think the media will be a problem in the future.............

Short and sweet this time and nailed................

@bnckeye

What are you PC specs, especially your device setup, I noticed you haved lots of deviecs hooked up, more than IDE bus can handle, so have you SATA HD's or PCI IDE expansion card, and if you have the expansion card, which devices are connected to it?

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............
Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down

yeah, as much as i campaign against crapola media, given a logfile all you can do is sift thru and fix the problems within. Crap media will, in time, show it's true nature and the bad media fairy will once more descend when the time is right.

But as long as it's not my bad media (or hard earned money!), all i can do is advise

:)
