I have a Pioneer DVR-108 burner with the latest firmware installed, but when I try to burn DVD discs using the latest version of Nero, sometimes just after the analyzing of files has been completed, the burn process failed error message comes up. After this, I eject the blank dvd, put the same one in again, press burn and it will complete successfully!! This doesn't make much sense to me. Any suggestions, as it can get very frustrating having a disc fail 3 times then work on the fourth try.

I should also add that i'm using 8x TY media that is on a generic spool with generic labelling but has been checked with DVD Identifier

My nero log is below:

Hi there,

#1- I would remove your Name and Nero Serial # from your log post !!!
Someone could/will steal your serial !

Your CD and DVD burner seems to be on the same IDE channel.
DMA is OFF on your CD-Burner, I am wondering if it will effect the transfer rate on your DVD burner.

Try to turn on DMA on your CD burner...

Noticed you tryed to burn at 4x, does your burner support 2x ?
Try burning at 2x and free up some memory.
I also have a high memory % but always burn at 2x.

Now this one I don't get...

You usually see the 00 00 00 00 00 when it doesn't recognize the media, but it does say above TYG02. Maybe it just doesn't like that one, but hey this is the best media ever, go figure...

I do not use Adaptec ASPI drivers, I use the one that came with Nero.
Maybe using Nero's flavor will help ?

My 2 cents...

Thanks for your help cougar_ii
But i'm not really sure what to do... my DMA settings are correct according to the website you sent me.
The burner supports 2x --> 16x burn speeds.. but when i put in the disc, all other options apart from 4x are locked out by Nero.
And thirdly, how do you use Nero's drivers? I haven't had any experience with this before.

Yeah.. I think next time I get a spool I'll just get a spool of TDK -R's...
They're about 20c more per disc.. but if they don't give me all these problems then it's probably worth it

i have a feeling media is the culprite, as cougar says. As far as all the 0's being there, I get that on my burns but they all come out fine, so by itself I don't think that is necessarily bad. But you did get the key medium error, which usually indicates media issues. Especially this one too: "Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: Unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R DL.)" When it can't recognize your media even to determine whether it's +R or -R, that's a pretty big indication that you should change media. Yes, TY are the best media, but there are fakes out there (and I don't know if the fakes come up as TY, but I'll bet they do because I've got some Ritek G04 that I suspect as being fake, but they always come up as G04), and just because they are the best doesn't mean they are completely flawless.

The first thing that came to mind when I read the Nero log and saw the
000000000's was possibly FAKE TY MEDIA like squizzle stated. I'm also not sure how this fake stuff comes up in a media check but its sure possible. Just my guess.
