What do you mean by "mount iso"?

Mounting an ISO image is the act of creating a virtual drive. By this I mean that Daemon Tools takes the image and lets you access it via a drive added to windows explorer.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/daemon_t...

once installed it adds an icon to your taskbar (near the clock)click on it, then click on the virtual drive. This open a file dialog in which you can locate the ISO image. once you have opened the image file, a few seconds later this will be added as a new drive (cd/dvd drive) in windows explorer. Then just treat it as any other optical media drive.

hope this helps.

@bigapples

thats what hes trying to do, but he needs to mount or burn the ISO first in order to get at the VOB files. Then he can use the other prog in my initial reply

Mr. Taz, Ok so the reason I asked for this method Is because when I back up my dvd's i rip them to iso format then burn that to the disc. Now somtimes i want to keep the movie file on my hard drive but the iso files take up way to much space, so therefore I wanted to know if you can convert the iso file into a AVI or mpeg file. In your opinion would it be more time consuming to convert the iso to AVI the way u stated or should i just re-rip the disc to VOB format? Thanks

Vob files will take up as much space as the ISO's, as the ISO is simply a container.

Please take some time reading up on the progs I have suggested, you will see that while this may be a time consuming exercise it is infact quite a simple process. I really dont think there is any reason for me to write an entire guide for this as there are plenty available.

you could simply use the guide on this site on how to convert a dvd to a VCD and just skip the last step. it should give you approximatly a 1 GB .mpg file

easiest way I know is to use DVD Shrink and use the back up to the hard disk folder. It puts your iso back into a video ts folder with your vobs. Then use auto gordian knot to convert to AVI.
I repeat, this is really simple.

Which version of DVD Shrink do you have? Make sure you have the latest version, then go to File....Open Disc Image...browse to the folder where you have your .iso file and click open.

Thanks phoenix11 for that great tip about repacking Video_TS folders back into .ISO with DVD Shrink! I didn't know it could do that.

As for the queries that everyone seems NOT to get, you have to mount the .ISO file with Deamon Tools. If it successfully does (did I spell that right?), it should come up as a DVD in the virtual drive. After which, you load up DVD Decrypter, make sure it's on Read ISO mode, then Decrypt to the Hard Drive.

If you want to learn what to do next, then read the guides from this site:

· How to burn a DVD folder with DVD Decrypter
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_dvd_folder_dvd_decry...

· Convert DVD-movies to AC3 DivX using Gordian Knot
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/gordian_knot_ac3.cfm

· Copy your DVD into DivX5 format - Guide for 16:9 anamorphic movies
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2divx_anamorphic.cfm

Ohh, I forgot to add this earlier, but, this last guide is somewhat old, so it would be wise to try to look for the thread started by happyuser entitled "The True Way To Make DivX" if I recall.

To add to that:
-Don't use the Ecuador's AVI bitrate Calculator, use the DivX calculator included in 5.2 and 6 instead

-DoItFast4U may take some time to work, so ignore it unless you really want to backup your whole DVD to DivX

-If the movie isn't really that long (like, less than 2 hours worth), try sticking to a file size of 700MB and MP3's of 128kbps CBR

-Use Gordian Knot Rip-pack for almost all of the programs discussed. Also, try not to resize the file, but just crop if neccessary.

That should be enough for most of the people here. Good day.

If Im online, Im usually on Steam:

I'm working on creating a streaming media server for my base. I've got one of our training video's ripped to an ISO image. When I try the suggestion of mounting it them and then useing flashmpeg it doesn't just see one file, it seperates the iso into video and audio and won't let me do anything with the files. I've been working on similar things for weeks and I've got a lot of software for conversions, burning, imaging, etc. but nothing will work with iso-mpeg, avi, whatever. Can anyone offer up some other options?

previous post edited for your viewing pleasure:) Nevermind though, I've got something working. That Flashmpeg is about a sorry program though, it'll quit for absolutely no reason and without warning unless I open something else in front of it.

i don't follow how to accomplish this with DVD Shrink/Decrypter (both software I have). all guides show how to convert a dvd movie to AVI, but not individual episodes on the dvd to individual avi's? what am i missing here?

thanks for the attention,
mark
