i just finished doing this via gordian knot. it's not as easy as i thought, but very thorough.. and good. lots and lots of options from encoding to bitrates.

in the end, i was trying to understand it before i actually did it. that was a mistake. for all of you trying to encode dvd's to other formats, try it first, then ask questions. doesn't follow intuition, but it's better this way.

thanks to all who helped,

go to the re-author section of DVDshrink and you will see the separate episodes.

When a DVD-R says its got 120 mins on it and the movie is less than 2 hours how to you use the dvd to store the movie. I have been using a dvd-decrypter to make isos and this doesnt work. as the iso files are way to big.

not quite sure what you're trying to do here. Are you trying to burn a video file ( AVI mpg ) to dvd or do you want to make a back-up copy of a shop dvd?

I have been storeing back up copies of my dvds on a portable hardrive but they are taking up way to much space so i wanted to burn the movies onto dvds. The images i have stored are up to 8 gigs and the dvds im using are standard 4.7GB or 120minute. I want to convert my iso format copies to a format which will take advantage of the 120 minute feature on the dvd. I would like the dvd to be viewable on dvd players but if this is not poss its not essential.

ok look I think the answer for you is dvdshrink...just load your .iso's into that and it will convert to a 4.7 gb disc.
If that's not what you mean let us know but try that...
if you need more help..we're here.

Hey Ya'll,

I'm not one to not try something before asking, and let me tell you, I'm trying this Gordian Knot method this time, and having just one issue (btw, this is a freaking sweet method to convert ISO/VOB to AVI, etc.):

I have the VOB files and am converting them to AVI (Divx5, mp3). I successfully acheive this, however the audio has a small delay in time, which makes this unwatchable.

I can go into great detail of my setup, but wanted to get a first-reaction opinion from the experts before too much detail.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

Cheers,
-m
