Starting today, maybe earlier (I was out of town noticed pc reset, but that could just be windows update) I was working with my computer doing some CPU intensive stuff (sound recording and a ton of multitasking haha) and the computer just reset itself.
Upon restart it asked me to scandisk so i did and it found a bunch of corrupted volumes and files and repaired them... but then froze upon attempted startup.

I should mention a week or two ago i also noticed video fragments in games, this problem was solved with new drivers, video card never OC'd.

Back to now: Tried to boot up into safe mode, couldnt. Harddrive making starting up and shutting down sounds. I have 2 harddrives, WinXp is on one and the other one was doing the shutting on and off. Attempted scandisk results in freeze.

I assumed this was a dud HD, so i go to disable IDE channel. I set it from AUTO to NONE. Restart, still is detected, fully load into windows I promptly backup everything I wanted and turn off the computer.

Return home 3 hours later, turn on computer, boots into windows fine, no more problems, except. My PC fans with all their fancy lights and case light fans are all shining at about 1/4 brightness and sometimes sound like they're having a rough time going
i have vantec fan controller attached so i start turning off some fans and lights, but the brightness does not change. Harddrive is working fine, some new volume errors found in other harddrive that didn't produce any earlier in the day, they're fixed and eveyrthing is back to "normal" excpet for this questionable fan light problem so I shut everything down and went over to a different computer in the house and posted this message.

Computer I have is Athlonxp 3000+ w/ a7n8x-x, 1gig ram, radeon 9700 pro aiw, ICUTE 401sl w/ ICUTE powersupply

i figure the power supply is a dying.. based on other things I'd read about fragmentation to polygons in games and the corruptions on harddrives... but i thought id ask first before i blew money on a new one and found out it was just a dud harddrive that I coulda just backed up.

Someone reply asap :)

Either PSU is on it's way, or one of the devices is drawing too much current.

I would plum for the PSU though.................

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............
Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down
