Started having problem within last 6 months. I am unable to get sound on DVD-R through tv set. Works fine through surround sound and also on computer. I use CloneDVD2 and have not changed any settings from when I originally started burning. tia.

How is the player hooked up to the TV set? Sounds (maybe) like you have to switch from the dts soundtrack to the dolby soundtrack.

All dvd's (not dvd-r's) play fine in JVC player. Also tried playing dvd-r's in a different player without surround sound hook-up. The dvd-r's do not have sound in that one either.

No "dis" or condescension should be inferred here:-)

"All dvd's (not dvd-r's)" ??
I guess you mean the originals play with sound but the copies don't, right? JVC players love -R disks. Are you asking how to play through your surround sound amplifier/receiver directly to the TV's little speakers instead of to the attached surround speakers? And how does the 6 months fit into the question ... it worked before?

Overall, I can't get a handle on exactly what you are asking (I'm sure you know what you want but there are contradictions in what you write).

Please say how your player or surround-receiver is hooked up to the TV: i.e. what cables are going from the player or receiver to the TV and how are they plugged-in at both ends.

Also, have you tried using the movie menu's setup or your remote's audio button to be sure you are playing dolby (assuming your setup can't decode dts soundtracks)?

Also most TV's only accept input from 2 sound channel cables so you have to instruct your player or surround receiver, in it's setup menu, to Downmix 5.1 channels into 2 channels.

Also, next time you backup a movie with CloneDVD, check to be sure the soundtrack you want copied IS actually "checked" or "ticked-on" on the Audio & Subtitle Settings screen of CloneDVD. Sometimes one can un-check something by mistake.

Summarizing: Something is not hooked up correctly or something your player needs is not checked-off in CloneDVD or turned-on on your player or receiver.

Sorry if I have not communicated correctly. I would like to listen to my dvd's through my tv speakers.
My receiver does handle dts, and I can certainly hear the sound when using my receiver.
I have the boxes checked off for the audio sound when burning with CloneDvd2, but am wondering if I leave the check off would that completely eliminate any audio on the burned dvd?
Just frustrated. I guess I can keep using my receiver to listen to the disks, but sometimes you just don't need to have it on.

As an "aside" I'll say that listening through a surround setup is far superior sound than what you will experience through little TV speakers. If it's a matter of being too loud after hours, have you checked out many of the surround-sound headphones that could plug into your receiver's headphone jack. I've got the Sony MDR-IF8000 surround-infrared-wireless 6.1 channel headphones and they are great! I don't like the 900 MHz radio frequency type wireless headphones because microwaves and hairblowers etc. can cause static and interference (therby reducing your listening pleasure :-) sorry, can't resist ... I'm in Product Marketing). Infrared type wireless is the best technology. And you can add an unlimited number of extra headphones for other people when listening after hours. Mine are a bit expensive though. There are others out there. Or just regular plug in headphones. TV sound is awful!

That being said, you need to run stereo (2) cables and a (3rd) video cable from your receiver to the TV or direct from your player to the TV. Then set the downmix from 5.1 to 2 channels. I don't know your setup so I why don't you invite one of your audiophile or nerdy friends over to your house to hook it up for you and show you how to switch back and forth from downmixing for the TV and then back to surround sound for when you want full sound. Print-out and let him read this conversation between us. BTW, nerds love pizza and coke!

PS I have used CloneDVD to removed dolby tracks, leaving only dts, in order to make more room on a backup. I have never un-ticked all sound options but I guess if I did, I'd get no sound.

PPS Just had another thought. To make the hookup easy, you could get a converter cable (at an audio store or Radio Shack - measure the length of the cable you need to buy) with one end being a headphone "male"-jack and the other end being the red & white stereo "male" jacks. Then plug the stereo jacks into the TV's color coded stereo sockets and the headphone jack end into your surround-receiver's socket. Then switch "off" the speakers on your receiver. The headphone jack (when running the receiver in analoge rather than digital sound mode), by definition, has to downsize 5.1 channels to 2 channels. You obviously already have the video picture cable hooked up. So now you will get sound out of your TV speakers too. My Receiver is a JVC, yours may work differently ... nerd time again!
