I'm trying to back up this movie but I get the "cyclic redundancy check" with DvdDecrypter, Smartripper, DvdShrink, or CloneDVD (with AnyDVD) I have all the updates for these softwares. Any suggestions? TIA

Possibly the original was pressed bad. If you already haven't tried, try backing up the movie only. If that doesn't work I'm guessing the original needs exchanged.

This so called " bad press" is becoming an epidemic. Methinks something is amiss. Can they intentionally "bad press" DVD's ?

Exchanged it for another one but same error. I suspect new protection on this DVD.

Anydvd updated about a week ago for another new version of encryption. Make sure you have the latest download. This may be the problem. The bad pressings are probably from lack of quality control over the excessive amount of dvd's produced. Most players overlook the bad part and keep playing but when you try to rip the bad ones it will show up usually as a CRC error.

I think these are really bad disks. I am on my third original and they exhibit the same behavior, stuttering and freezing, in the same sector. I guess I have to make do with what I got...no backups : (

Maybe try exhanging it at a different store location. I did this movie and Be Cool with AnyDVD 4.6.3.1 (older verison - haven't installed the newer one yet) and Nero Recode. Nothing special what from I could tell encryption wise.

I had the same problem with Beyond the Sea. Kept getting a CRC error at the 1:08:10 mark. I'm using CloneDVD 2.8.2.1 and AnyDVD 5.2.2.1. Doesn't appear to be new protection. Appears to be a bad press...that sector of the DVD won't play correctly in any of my DVD players (Sony and Panasonic). Kept skipping and jumping.
Had no problems backing up Be Cool.

@ILHS86
If your able to rip the movie but not burn it than something is amiss with your burner or media. Try updating your burner's firmware.
You can also post your log here to see if someone can help.

its the dvd movie or media, i played the dvd and found that in the movie when he does not win a oscar. He tears down the sign scene it then skips 3 minutes forward. You can reverse the video and see whats missing. But you can't play the scene from the beginning.

I had no playback problems at all even with the scene you describe. Sounds like your media. What are you using?

that was the original dvd that skipped, and this appears in the area where it would knock out dvddecrpytor

got another original of Beyond the Sea and this disc also had bad sectors at the one hour eight minute mark (after he loses at the Oscars). Since my previous attempts with CloneDVD/AnyDVD failed, I used DVD Decrypter this time with AnyDVD running in the background. I set up Decrypter so that it would skip the bad sectors. Also, I set the retry attempts to a low number (3) or else the rip would take for ever. It finally ripped and there were 50+ bad sectors. I used CloneDVD to compress and burn the back-up. I popped the back-up into my DVD player and forwarded to the section that was giving me problems on the original. Other than 2-3 seconds of flickering at the one hour eight minute mark, the back-up played with no problems.
Yeah, this is a pain in the butt to do but hey, at least you get a usuable back-up. Hope this helps.

Thay are definitely doing some bad presses on these DVD's. For a new DVD to skip that bad shows the lack of quality control they have and that they probably do not care about the consumer. But hey we only buy them and spend are hard earned money (dripping sarcasm).

I would assume it is your burner.
I backed Beyond the Sea and Be Cool useing latest vs (6/11/05 of ANYCVD) and Nero Recode2 latest vs.
I have found that AnyDVD is the best program to bypass code there is BAR NONE.

It seemed like I was having an epidemic of DVD's with bad pressing. But used a good DVD lens cleaner, updated the firmware, downloaded the latest version of AnyDVD (the best, definely worth the $)and I am back in business. Got to thank all you guys at AfterDawn.com, ever since DVDXCopy lost it's support, I've been coming here to find out what's what. Haven't been let down yet. The answer is in here, just have to look or wait for it.

@cheezzz: Quote: I think these are really bad disks. I am on my third original and they exhibit the same behavior, stuttering and freezing, in the same sector.
I have had this problem with Natural Born Killers. Went through 5 different copies from 2 different Best Buy locations with the same thing. This stuttered and froze while I was watching the damn thing, turned out they made a bad batch of this movie. After they got their next shipment of them I finally got a good one. Maybe this happened here?? I just got this movie the other day without a hitch, but I'm using AnyDVD and I don't remember if there's any crazy encryptions or anything on it.
