I have burned using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter before on my desktop computer, and have had minor errors but have been able to burn. I just got a Dell Inspiron 6000 M laptop with a Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A burner in it. Whenever I try to burn an ISO file I have created with DVD Shrink, it says that there is an I/O error. The error alert looks like this:

---------------------------------------------------------
I/O Error!
Device: [1:0:0} SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A PDS3 (D:)(ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Write(10)-Sectors: 0-31

Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 27 00 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Write Protected

[Retry] [Cancel]

-------------------------------------------------

Can anybody tell me why this is happening and what I need to do to fix it? Thank you for any help.

Hi guys I just did a quick google on this subject, and it seems I/O errors are conflicts within the PC.
Remains of deleted programs can cause them the list of possible causes' seems endless.

I suggest you just put I/O error into google and see for yourself.

Theres lots of free programs claiming to remove them.

good luck both

Since my first post, I have upgraded from the ultra cheap no-name discs that I was using to higher quality verbatim and memorex dvd+r's. Since doing so I have experienced no problems and believe that this was the problem all along. My suggestion is to spend the extra money for better discs, because it is worth it. I found verbatim discs very affordably priced at Sam's Club...

Good Luck.

@Herg15

You should just know that while Verbatim are excellent quality discs, Memorex are usually manufactured by CMC Magnetics and are often a source of problems and coasters.

I bought the new XPS Gen 2 laptop with the same dvd burner. I can't get the dvd's to play in any other device. I am using the same version of DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink that I previously used on my desktop machine.

I re-installed windows without the burning software that came from Dell and have not installed service pack 2 on the new install yet.

Can anyone help?

Hi Herg15,

Your firmware is outdated, the latest one is PDS7

And yes, keep away from cheap media like MEMOREX.

The I/O error I received was actually slightly different, I wasn't aware of the text indicator for the firmware version.

I/O Error!

Device: [1:0:0] SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A PDS7 (D:)(ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 28 00 00 1F C7 DA 00 00 01 00

Interpretation: Unrecovered Read Error

As you can see, the firmware is updated to the most recent version. I have tried using different software, reloading windows, updating drivers, everything I can think of.

Help!! And, thank you for the firmware recommendation. I had already done that, but it's helpful information for people searching forums... like me!

Are you still trying to read the same movie again ?

It says READ error, not write. So I'm wondering if THAT one DVD is bad, dirty, scratched etc..

You get this with ALL dvd's your trying to read ?

Hey, did a google search for my error message and stumbled upon this thread. I'm getting this:

I/O Error!

Device: [1:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N 1.19 (D:)(ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors 0 - 31
Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0E 00 00 00 00 0C 80 00 00
Interpertation: Unknown (Write Error) (0x0C, 0x80)

with my laptop. I've been burning DVDs for almost a year without trouble. I had some really cheap discs that ended up giving me this same message, but as soon as I got better ones, I stopped getting the error. I've tried to burn several different dvds, to no avail. The processor has no trouble reading DVDs, and no trouble burning CDs.

I've already tried a system restore and had no luck.... I don't think I've changed anything about the operating system since this happened.

Any help would be much appreciated. :D

Right, but what I'm saying is, I *have* been using the high quality discs, and I am now getting the same error message with the same high quality discs that I've been using for the last six months. Which is why I'm flummoxed. I've already tried using different high quality discs, to no avail.

i have recieved that message on approx 85% of my burns, however if i click cancel it will start burning. The image is perfect on tv and writes with no errors. I am using sony discs DVD-R.... hmmmm.... now that i think of it i was using fuji before, i dont remember if ive seen the error with those discs.. ill have to try the fuji again. No rush though sonys still work great even with the error message.
