I've been away for awhile from backups. I'm having serous issues. What is the best tool that will do most the work for you? Where can I get it?
I ca't do Ghost recon 2 ( small game size), it just doesn't work. I don't think it is dual layer. Can I tell if a game is dual layer by packaging?

Yet some games I can back up as normal. I've tried several diffrent burning programs..

Na you can't, usually they are packed with dummy files in order to get the size over 4.7gb.

As for your "serious issues" I reccomend DVD Decrypter. Although it's been forced to stop now :( but it's freeware and it does the job.

-Mike

ps. Look for some guides using the search function on how to use DVD Decrypter.

here is how to use DVD Decrypter and many other guide are in the tutorial section.
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html
The tutorial page is the last icon that looks like an electronic notepad. It has guides for removing dummy files, rebuilding ISO's, Using certain programs. Could be useful for you to read them.

steimy,
That is how I have always done it. It works sometimes but some games don't work after burning. I take it that it is Dummy files that is the problem??? But how do I take dummy files out?

if you were able to burn the game to dvd with DVD Decrypter...then it shouldn't be the dummy files...what's the file size you are getting, the speed you are burning at, and media you are using?

IsoBuster is pretty good to use for extracting files from images.DvdDecrypter is used to make images and burn them,to extract files you need to use a tool such as IsoBuster,Apache,IsoEdit etc...

The burning programs I use besides DvdDecrypter are Nero,Sonic RecordNow,CDRWin the list keeps going. The media you are using could be fake, not sure if you have the real Verbatim or not though.I recently bought some Sony Dvd+R media from WalMart, but I couldn't get anything to work with them.I checked up on the media code, and they are fakes.I think sometimes you have to be careful where you get your media.

Try this site out http://www.newegg.com and look for the Ritek G04 discs. They have a different name off newegg I think, they are called Ridata G05 for the media.I think these are pretty good, some more sites you can check out would probably be http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia just scroll down on the page to see what media is the best. They also give you the media code, and check the media code that you have with this site. They could be very poor media, just depends on where you get them to be honest.I am only shopping online at newegg or meritline for now on with media.

Yeah I know some media it will say it is good, but you have to run media tests on your PS2.I recommend this to alot of peeps to be honest, even though it might say it is good. There could be a possibility that your PS2 will reject the media. What I am saying is experiment with media and burning programs to see what suites you the best.Different combinations will give you different results, such as negative and positive media with certain burning programs an so forth like that.

I've actualy done that. DVD drypter has always worked for me. Verbatim media has always worked. I can burn some but not all games.
I burned area 51 & Enthusia but can't get these to load.
Nascar 2005
Ghost Recon 2
several others.
I can burn some games using the same media and process but not all games. It really don't make sense to me.
I've used Ner, DVD Dycrypter (may you rest in Peice) Alchol 120%, primo.

My PS2 loves verbatim it always has. It comes down to certain games I believe. I bought my pioneer when it first came out and had to learn what my PS2 likes as far as media and burning software. It drives me crazy.

You need a patch for Ghost recon 2 if it's not working and if it don't burn or rip then you might have a scratched up game (original copy) that's what happen to me with nba live 05 i tried to rip it but decrypter wouldn't read it because it was messed up and some games wouldn't burn either. So it might not be decrypter it just might be your games. And for Dummy.files all i did was open a notepad renamed it dummy.dat or what ever the dummy file name is and hit the space bar once and saved it then replaced it with the original dummy file.

How do I patch ghost recon 2? I didn't see any DUMMY files. Is there a patch I need to add to get it to work? Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question! I just have never had to do this yet.

Well there are a couple of ways to find the media code for your media, such as DvdDecrypter,Dvd Identifier,Nero InfoTool etc...I think the Dvd Identifier might help you out.You can find it off this site http://dvdidentifier.cdfreaks.com/ hope this helps you out.
