Can't burn/find DVD drive---locked?!

I've been staying in Asia for the past few weeks and have only played a few dvds of my Dell. I bought it in the US and I think my drive may have been locked after playing a few dvds that I bought over here. Now when I put a dvd in, my drive doesn't acknowledge that there is a dvd in it. But reading & writing cds if fine. I burn and compress using DVD decrypter and xcopy platinum. Not being able to burn dvds #($*)!# sucks. Any solutions or possible suggestions as to what the heck is wrong?

probably because of the region codes. There is region free software out there, I use AnyDVD which removes region codes off discs and possibly drives, making them all universal.
