I have a netgear router, and I am trying to use bittorrent with good speeds.

When I had a dlink router, everything worked smoothly, the ports forwarded fine, and I would get awesome download speeds. (600 kB/s)

I'm currently downloading a torrent with 135 seeds and 37 peers, and it is downloading at 88 kB/s (pretty sad for a 6Mbit connection). There was also one guy downloadind at 1,000 some kB/s!!

On my router, I forwarded the correct ports (6881 - 6999, the ones configured in BitTornado) to my static IP on my pc, but I opened BitTornado, and it said something to the effect of "Couldn't Listen: Unable to forward ports via UPnP". I checked on my router, and I do have UPnP enabled.

I also have limited my upload speed to prevent it from choking my connection, and nothing seems to help...I'm starting to think I should get a new router.

Thanks,
Gman22

Edit: eh, now its going at 160 kB/s.

I dont use uPnP here but the ports your using could be the cause of your problems. Whilst it is a good idea to keep 6881 - 6889 forwarded, they are not the correct ports to have your client use. I would suggest using a higher port range > 42000. This is because many sites block clients using the common connection ports.

Dont forget to add the additional ports to your forward settings.

Mr Taz UK, would you be able to help me with my problem. I have a BT voyager 205 adsl router, my speed is 2mb, and I use PTC bit bittorent but I keep on getting slow speed. I have followed other suggestions but no luck. When I type in the default gateway in the web address column, I don't get options to update or add forwarding port ranges. Ur help would be appreciated.

It may not be your ISP blocking the ports as some BT trackers will also refuse entry if you use ports in the 'banned range'

Mr Taz UK, I have tried both websites that u posted but they didn't work. On the first website, i follwed everything and kept getting 'file mandatory error' message every time i put the port details in. And with the second website, i followed the instructions by putting what was instructed but it closed my internet down, it lost connection completely. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry about that, portforward.com are usually right on the money.

I'm afraid I dont have access to that model router to try myself. Hopefully someone else can answer you.
