Ok I'm a total noob to all this HD stuff.

I have a v7 PS2 with a network adapter.

So all I have to do is buy a compatible HD, and either HDLoader or HDAdvance, right?

Do I need a modchip or is that only if I want to put burnt games on the HD?

Please help me out. Thanks in advance!

One more question. I've been reading around and apparently Im going to need to patch HDLoader to work with the 160gig HD im planning to buy right? How do I patch it?

Depending on how old the hdl is you will not have to patch anything, i recommend you get swap magic and make your own exploit using HDLSOURCE.ELF that?s if your using the bulkier ps2.

What exactly does the memory card exploit do? What about Keylauncher?

A exploit is a method of tricking the ps2, it allows you to boot elf files using only a ps1 game, like if you installed the hdl onto your memory card you could use Keylauncher to boot the hdl file from the memory card.

I.E.

Create exploit on pc using ps1 disc and burn to cd-r,

boot up swap magic and install the exploit to memory card,

put ps1 game in ps2 and wait for the white screen,

after that choose the elf file you wish to boot, like insted of using the hda disc you can have it running off your memory card,

then using the booted hdl, run hdd to play games.

So basically I wouldn't have to buy HDLoaderr right? But for that to properly work, I would need some way of booting a burned CD such as modchip or swapmagic.

Would it be possible if I bought the retail version of HDLoader and then used WinHIP to put the exploit CD ISO on my HD, Boot my ps2 using the HDLoader CD, and then run the exploit ISO?

And I need to use the memory card exploit to patch my version of HDLoader, right?

You wont have to buy hda, you can only install a exploit using such methods as swap magic or a modchip if you use the exploit i was talking about you wont have to pacth anything and it supprots dvd9 games like gt4.

You will need swap magic or a chip to boot it, yeah you can buy hdl on the Internet (ebay is a good place for it)
