dvd decrypter will no longer be updated, but it still works just as good as it always did. You can still get PSL files (Protected Sectors List) for those problem movies (click File, Import, PSL list). If you want one for Closer, do a search for it, I saw someone post one earlier and said it works.

Hi there,

My question is: Who will create those PSL files ?

It guess it's going to be an open source thing, eveyone who feels like creating one will.

I hope some very knowledgable group will start keep those up to date, and not everything trying too !

Also, I hope there will be 1 main source, so we don't start seeing those all over the place on the net.

Let that one source be Afterdawn.com.

First rule of AfterDawn.com is you search before you post.

Do you want to be the PSL CZAR or TZAR?

AD is a little slow on this one.

the fact is that they will be out there. May take a day or 2, maybe even a week but they will be out there.

All of us who still think that DVD Decrypter is THE decrypter.

Digital Digest do have a list of the current PSL files - those who was posted by LUK in the DVD Decrypter Forum. I haven't seen any new DVD other than those that have needed a PSL file - yet.

I know that there will be a lot of PSL files in the future. The main problem is that to create a PSL file is very easy - but it will take the DVD reader a long time to struggle thru the reading problems. Several hours in worst scenario.

To invent the wheel is not very smart. It's already invented. To create new PSL files when someone already have done one - when you just can copy his must be much easier.

So I know that afterdawn.com's users will post some PSL files on their forum, on Digital Digest's forum someothers will post a PSL for another movie.

So my basic suggestion is - why not share the knowledge.

The program is freeware - and so shall the PSL files also be.

So I hope that all forums that want to keep DVD Decrypter alive can exchange PSL files with eachother.

just copy and paste into Notepad or Wordpad and save it. Then in Decrypter click File, PSL, Import and find your file.

(a few of the guys will frown when i say this as they know it's an excuse for me to NOT buy AnyDVD!).

But Cynthia has made a very good point there -

I hadn't really thought about what was going to happen after Decrypter was shutdown as i assumed that any new development (whether by PSL files or whatever) would cause more problems for Lightning UK. Also i haven't read up anything new about anything Decrypter-related since he got shutdown, just haven't got around to it.
Decrypter's not gone in my eyes , not by a long shot. Plus PSL files would seem to be the way to keep it current, certainly for now.

Sorry for a stupid question....but I don't
understand the PSL content and how it's
used for ripping. I tried a rookie move and
attempted to back up the original star wars
movie and keep getting a redundant or cycle error
when using DVD Decrypter.
Is this where the PSL plays in. where are they
found and would one paste them into the video
ts folder to overwrite some dummy sectors?
can you help a rookier here?

I'm with kp how to go about copy and paste I suppose these would be the dummy sectors it inserts but which ones to copy and paste I guess I'm screaming for a guide. any feed back that's simple enough for a feeble minded fool like me would be appreciated

Here is a guide on how I think it's done. If it works - please post your PSL file - it will help others.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=51810

Also if it don't works - post your log file from DVD Decrypter.

a-ha i'd suspected you were the same cynthia from digital digest. i do wander over there now and then but there's far too much going on, i find it easier to hang out here as i can (almost) keep up with the posts more easily.
