Hi there,

welcome to Afterdawn...

Please do not use all caps when you right a message.

Now, for your playback issues, please provide us more information:

What DVD burner do you have ?
What media are you using ?
What speed did you burn those ?
What software did you use to burn them ?
What other software did you use to RIP/Shrink/Convert those video files ?

Playback problems can usually be fixed by applying 3 simple rules:

1- Buy quality media, Taiyo Yuden, they are the best.
Or get like Ritek, TDK, Fujifilm, Maxell
Make sure it says "Made In Japan" on the box.
Don't use any "Made In Taiwan" crap...

2 sites to look at DVD Media:
-----------------------------
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Tools to help you read the media code off your disks:
-----------------------------------------------------
http://www.dvdinfopro.com
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

2- Burn slow........
Most people will burn at 2x or 4x MAX. This will give it a constent burn and should really help.
Some people will burn at 8x on really high quality media, but make sure you have lots of free physical memory.
Don't have tons of apps in the background running.

3- If you use tools like DVDShrink, they let you choose the output size of the .ISO (or destination files).

Choosing a size like 4300mb rather than the default 4464mb will prevent you of burning too close to the edge of the media, which may be a problem with cheap media.

If you follow those 3 rules, you should get above 90% results if not more.

Good luck burning !

please elaborate...before suggesting this to someone, i would like to ask you where you are drawing that conclusion...that any media made in taiwan= crap ?? based on something you read? or just something that you tell everyone who asks for suggestions regarding media?

you contradict yourself in saying that when only a few lines above that statement you suggest

Ritek are made EXCLUSIVELY in Taiwan, how is someone to try YOUR recommended media if they only look for the "made in japan" as you stated~

just curious as you are not consistent with your recommendations AND your statement about media made in taiwan = crap~

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply.

You are right, I am no expert and I am giving advise on stuff I have read. I didn't know Ritek were made in Taiwan only.

Maybe I should have used better words than just say Taiwan = Crap.

Maybe I should have said something like:

If it's made in Japan, there's a good chance it will be decent quality.

I am just trying to help, and I'm sure with others like you replying to me, *I* learn as we go, and others might too.

Sorry if I say wrong things, and confuse others.
Then again, this is a public forum, and not a $25,99/min support line <grin>...

Thanks for your time to reply.

@ cougar

i wasn't trying to condemn you or anything, i, much like you, just try to help on here...if i were being PAID for it, then i would take my comments much more seriously~ but, we all live and learn..i just wanted to point out a common misconception about media that i've read A LOT of people posting about recently, consider it constructive criticism, rather than a mistake~ :) i don't have enemies on here, but i HAVE spent a lot of time on media over the last few years, so, i speak from experience~

just as a pointer for future reference, i know firsthand where you might have read such things as "made in taiwan=crap" that member got a LOT of bashing from me as well as many other senior members for such an arrogant/misguided comment like that; when others read that post, they believed him since that was the first thing that they read...

all i am saying is just to be careful what you read on here, ask anyone that knows me on here, i MAY be wrong about every other subject/topic, but, NOT media~ that is where i have helped the MOST people on here get their burning back on track~ there are even members on here that quote my sig. and or comments from other threads or PM me INTO a thread just so i can comment about media~

i appreciate your willingness to learn and your wholehearted helpfulness here on AD, i thank you for taking the time to read and understand comments that others make and not disregard them because they do not agree with your own point of views.

i wish you only the best cougar, like i said, i don't have enemies on here..i just like to point out some errors every now and then when people talk about media~ :)
