Problem dvd-rw turns to cd drive when disc inserted?

Similar thing. I have just replaced my CD/DVD+-RW drive with an LG GSA-4163BA dual layer Rewriter, which is only recognised as a DVD or CD drive. Have tried everything mentioned previously except Nero info tool, which wont work. It downloads and unzips OK but when I run it it gets part way through and crashes. Have sent a web-mail to techsupport@nero 2 days ago and yesterday but had no reply (other than automated rsponse. Supplier said to return writer but will chasrge £10 + postage + VAT if not faulty. PLEASE HELP. Hard drive now full and desperate to back up data to remove it from hard drive.

unistall the drives & ide controllers in device manager than restart windows to let it load it's own drivers

Got a Benq 1620 pro and love it. It comes with Nero 6 and the previous recorder Sony DRU=710a has its own version. Iried burning with Nero 6 but it's reads the Sony Nero 6 and not Benq version. I have overwritten the previous version. Do I delete the Sony version totally and reinstalled the Benq's version. Any help will greatly be appreciated?

go to the nero site & download nero cleaner or something like that. than download & run ccleaner from this link including issues. defrag your hd than install the new nero. http://www.ccleaner.com/

thanks I will give it a shot. what about delete the file or remove it from programs then rebooted. Does anyone else have a similiar problem with Nero and the DVD Rw drivers?

vcd gear is just the name of the program but the only problem with VCD gear is that it cant change all the files into mpeg's it can only turn bin/cue files and the other ones listed when u download it (when u open up VCD gear there is a place that says extraction / conversion and underneath it click on the drop down screen and look for ur file u have if it isnt there i cant help u and im also a newbie at this im just trying to help people by suggesting what i did i hope it works if it doesnt just write up and ill try to help u

Tried uninstalling, disconnecting and reconnecting unsuccessfully! Recognised new hardware as CD ROM drive and installed same drivers as previous (Microsoft 5.1.2535.0). LG state all their drivers are installed in Windows and cannot send new drivers. Nero need info tool analysis to be able to help, which crashes everytime I try to run it. Anyone got any ideas. I've only got 5 GB of hard drive left and desperate to free up hard drive space without losing data.

Sorted! Upgraded Nero5 to Nero6 and works a treat!!
Infotool also working now, but no longer needed.
At least I've learnt a lot in last few days and can now clear my hard drive!
