this is a recent development, and I can't think of anything that I've changed that would cause it. DVD-Decrypter now uses 100% of the CPU both ripping and burning DVD's, and maxes out at 1.2x or 1.3x for each process. Uninstalling and reinstalling older versions does not help.
anyone have an idea what's up or what I can do?

Check for Viruses or spyware on your pc, these always cause this kind of problem.

no I ran adaware and spybot and norton, and found nothing.
Just a little more info, it's only with my DVD Drive, the program burns ISO's on my CD-RW at normal speed. Another burning program Sonic can burn to the drive at normal speed as well, but it can't burn disc images.
My DVD drive is an NEC ND-3450A (? that's what it shows up as in the program). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to no avail either.

OK, both devices are set to DMA if Available, except 1 is actually in Ultra DMA Mode 2, and #2 is in PIO Mode. Think that's something?
I uninstalled the controllers, they reinstalled successfully, and same problem still happens.

If you're happy you did the DMA fix procedure correctly, i s'pose we need to get one step cleverer -
Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
It has subkeys like 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Normally 0001 is the primary IDE channel, 0002 the secondary, but other numbers can occur under certain circumstances. You have to go through these subkeys and check the DriverDesc value until you find the proper IDE channel.
Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected.
Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA).

YES!!! IT'S BACK!
I tried the uninstall, I tried the registry, I tried every combo of stuff, nothing worked. I did a search on DMA, and somewhere somebody mentioned "turning it on in the BIOS" but nothing more, but I went in and found that my CD-ROM had one setting, and my DVD drive another, so I matched them, and lo and behold IT WORKED!
Thanks so much for leading me down the right path, and edumacating me on DMA! Thank you thank you thank you!
