whipshock,

Here's the blow by blow for joining side a with side b of a flipper disc with DvdReMake. Of course you need to rip both sides to your hard drive first w/Decrypter. Make sure you're using advanced mode in Remake.

1. Import side a as project 1 into DVDRemake Pro

2. Import side b as project 2 into DVDRemake Pro

3. Select project 1, click on "Window" in the menu bar, click on "tile".

4. Select VTS 1 from side b (which should be project 2), right-click, and "copy VTS".

5. Select "DVD" from side a (which should be project 1), right-click, and "add copied VTS".

6. Close the project 2 window.

7. Expand Video Manager and then Menus.

8. Select VMG Titles, right-click in the VMG title window, and "add title" selecting the newly added VTS and title 1.

8. Right-click Menus and add 3 new menu PGCs. You should now have a PGC 3, PGC 4, and PGC 5.

9. Click on PGC 3. Select the "Pre Commands" tab in the window to the right. Right-click in the window and "add command". Edit the command to "Jump VMG Title 3". (This is the navigation to continue playing side "b"s VTS).

10. Click on PGC 4. Select the "Pre Commands" tab. Right-click and "add command". Edit the command to "Jump VTS 1 "root" menu (title 1)". (This is the navigation to return to the root menu of the side "a" VTS)

11. Click on PGC 5. Select the "Pre Commands" tab. Right-click and "add command". Edit the command to "Jump VTS 2 "root" menu (title 1)". (This is the navigation to jump to the side "b" VTS root menu).

12. Expand Video Title Set 1. Expand Menus. Select Menus. In the video window to the right, double click on the "Film Flash" button. Click on the (...) button. Edit the command to "Jump VMG PGC 5". (This is where we pass commands to the VMG menu section to route navigation to the side "b" root menu).

13. Expand Program Chains and select PGC 1. Select the "Post Commands" tab. Edit or replace the existing command to "Call VMG PGC 3 (resume cell 1)". (This is where we pass commands to the VMG menu section to route navigation to continue playing the side "b" VTS).

14. Expand Video Title Set 2. Expand Menus. Select Menus. In the video window to the right, double click on the "Film Flash" button. Click on the (...) button. Edit the command to "Jump VMG PGC 4". (This is where we pass commands to the VMG menu section to route navigation to the side "a" root menu).

15. Expand Program Chains and select PGC 1. Select the "Post Commands" tab. Edit or replace the existing command to "Call VMG PGC 4 (resume cell 1)". (This is where we pass commands to the VMG menu section to route navigation to the side "b" VTS root menu).

16. Save your project. Export a test dvd. Play it back in Mark's DVD Tray Player to make sure everything runs as you expect it to.

17. Export full dvd when you are satisfied and then process it in DVDShrink, Recode, Copy 3, RB/CCE or any other compression app of your choice to fit on a 4.7 gig blank dvd.

17. Burn to your favorite media when you are satisfied with the playback.

When you complete these steps, the DVD should start at the beginning of the movie (just the way this movie starts). When it reaches the end of disc a, it will continue playing disc b. If you press your remote's root menu button while playing side a and select the "Flash Film" menu button, it will switch you to the root menu of disc b. (Both menus are exactly the same so you will think that nothing happened when you selected this button. But if you select the "scenes" button you will see the chapters for disc b). If you press your remote's root menu button while playing side b and select the "Flash Film" button, you will be returned to the side a root menu. Same thing applies here. Select the scenes button and you will see chapter selections for side a. When the movie reaches the end without any interruptions, it will be sent back to the root menu of side a for you to choose "Play Movie" or select chapters or languages.

After you use it a little you'll get the hang of what's going on, you can do some further improvising and add more buttons for extra scene selections.

The "merge Dvd"s" function under tools also allows joining multiple discs. It provides it's own menu(which you can customize for your own preferences) which enables you to choose which movie or file you wish to go to, each with its own original menu.

This option would not have worked for what I wanted to do with the flipper disc as i only wanted one menu(the original) to work with a seamless movie to duplicate a normal DVD 9 movie w/ one menu and bonus features. For me, doing it by the method above was more what I wanted, there would be no need to join the flipper if you still had a break in the movie and had to choose the next menu to operate the other side.

However this feature is great for joining multiple files (or discs) with different shows, movies, or programs, etc. on one disc, and much easier to use than actually going into the DVD structure using advanced mode. And it only takes about 20 minutes using this method.

Let us know how it went.

ENJOY!

bigorange, I was psyched to find this step-by-step guide, but ran into trouble on step 4. I'm backing up Schinder's List, a flipper. I followed your instructions with Remake Pro 2.62. I import both sides as projects without a problem, but when I right-click on VTS1 from side B there's no "copy VTS" option. What I see is this:

Hide All Blocks
Restore All Blocks (greyed out)
Strip Angles (greyed out)
Enable All Operations

Tips? Thanks.

You must use the advanced mode to get these different options. Easy mode is the 5th and advanced mode is the 4th option from the end of the row of options that end with the question mark. Click on advanced mode and then when you right click you will see a wholly different (and more) set of options including copy VTS. :>)

all goes fine (except the number you give is quite different on which PGC is added of course)

until
12. Expand Video Title Set 1. Expand Menus. Select Menus. In the video window to the right, double click on the "Film Flash" button. Click on the (...) button. Edit the command to "Jump VMG PGC 4". (This is where we pass commands to the VMG menu section to route navigation to the side "a" root menu).

I expanded as you say, but there is NO film Flash button anywhere. On the right are pictures of the menus, and a play button at bottom which does nothing for me. But nowhere is any Film Flash button, nor is it listed anywhere in the very poor help files that I downloaded with the program.

Promising guide, but not working. Using DVDRemake Pro 3.4.1 and can't do step 9 (Click on PGC 3. Select the "Pre Commands" tab in the window to the right. Right-click in the window and "add command". Edit the command to "Jump VMG Title 3".) onwards correctly.

Has anyone successfully used a splicing tool like Fx-Movie-Joiner? I would prefer a menuless option. It anoys me to think many if not all these flip flix would fit on one side if the makers did not insist on putting so much crap on the disks! I would think the process for joining should be as simple as adding a reference for the flip side in the info file. Unfortunatly, I don't know how to do that.

If you prefer no menu at all just use DVD Shrink. You open both discs (or folders) and reauthor using just the titles you want. Easy as could be.

What version of Shrink are you using? I can not figure out how to open 2 sources with 3.2. It will only open one source at a time.

Unfortunately the Shrink method doesn't merge (neither does Recode even it claims to) you will have 2 title sets and a pause and you will be limited when trying to advance/backtrack chapters between them.

Here's another free way to merge.

Did I read the ifo/vobedit guide right? Will I be able to advance to chapters in a DVD that is made from different DVD's? I plan to experiment with it this weekend but just thought I would ask.
Just for example I would like to make a DVD of different scenes from different movies and make a DVD but I would like to be able to go to the next scene if I want.

I found the IFOEdit guide to work.
Followed the IFOEdit guide and it will create different chapters that you can advance to.
For a test I choose a clip from two different movies (Voyager and the X-files) and it created a chapter for each clip.
Took me a couple of times but if you follow the guide it will work.
Now I can make that DVD of great scenes from different movies.

ifo/vobedit does what it is supposed to do. There are technical problems with putting two sides together on one disk especially if each side is long. Like ThadiasJ, I had problems my fisrt time because I did not read the guide carfully. It was a plesant surprise when I got what I wanted. It is very nice!

P.S. I forgot to mention, I did need to run FixVTS after the merge but before Shrink. I also forgot to mention, the switch is seamless. You can not tell toe flick was in two parts.
