512+512 = .99 Gig How? I should have 1024, but my computer only reads .99 gig where are the other .25. Is the ram bad or is this a common occurance. If anyone could help please let me know. Thanks

what about the whole thing where MS bases a gig on 1024 mb and the rest of the world uses 1000 mb or vice-versa? that could be a factor, maybe.

deadcat is correct.
The most common problem is your graphics card is onboard and 'shares' your RAM for it.
If you check when your PC is starting up, and when it does its memory test, you will see xxx mb + xxx mb Shared Video

Thanks guys, shared memory my video card has no memory so it is borrowing a small amount from the computer. My system reports .99GB , that means the video card is only borrowing 6mbs. I can live with that. Thanks again

well if you plan on playing games u are going to need more than 6mb of video memory, and if you dont want to play games then you dont realy need 1024mb of ram :)

and to auslander, ms bases a gig on 1024mb because thats what it is: 1MB is actualy 1.024MB (1kb = 1024 bytes)


so actualy you do have 1024mb of ram and your shared video is using more than you thought :)
