g05 won't kill your laser if you're lucky. the g05 gives the laser more stress, that's why i recommend g04. use g05 at own risk

its not about what works best with your ps2.its what works best with your dvdrw drive.as you see, people have different stories on how discs work.probably because they have different burners.try and find someone with the same burner as you and see what worked best for them.and burners shouldnt be that picky when it comes to media and most media should work.if your burner is very selective on media then you should think you have a bad burner before you assume all the media that didnt work is bad media.

it's about the ps2 laser kid!! i know people that where using g02 media code and platinum dvd+r, their loading times where very long in games like san andreas nfsu2 and the laser died after a month, they replaced the laser, but with the same results. you can see a loading screen when playing the games. the bad media gives your laser more stress.

"the bad media gives your laser more stress"
100% correct. the burner can burn any old crap and you can stick it in the PC and see that the files are there. Doesn't mean the pS2 will play it. there is a small compatibility issue between burners and media, but it mostly depends on whay your PS2 will play.
Good media is a key in burning games so you have a laser that lasts and games that work like originals.
The best i have ever used are Philips 8X DVD-R
I use those all the time and never get a bad burn.
Using a Sony DRU-700A burner which is also top notch so that helps.

first of all im not a kid.and second, how many people do you claim this has happened to(dont exaggerate).and how old were there ps2.all dvdrs put more stress on the ps2 because the ps2 wasnt designed to read them.i doubt any particular disc would cause more stress than another.if the ps2 has trouble reading a disc it just plain wont play it.if it plays the game there is no way those discs are causing anymore stress than any other dvdr.

Could anybody else confirm if the Verbatims DVD+R or the Verbatims DVD-R do not work well for the Slimeline?
I am using Swap Magic, not modchip. I have a 50 pack of both Verbatims DVD+R and DVD-R, and am wondering which of the two I have will work well for game backups, if any at all.

To clear up the laser issue
YES cheap media causes more stress on the laser due the the cheap ink used when they are produced. The laser has to work harded to read them causeing lasers to burn out quicker.
The discs with cheap ink are also prone to wearing out and then games stop working.
Everyone doesn't suggest that you use good media just to get you to spend more money. it's because cheap media just doesn't work as well or for as long.

well dont you think if the lens has to work harder to read the ink that it would cause read errors?i dont know exactly how the ps2 lens operates but it sounds like your suggesting the lens adjusts its power to compensate to the type of ink used?which doesnt sound correct.

sui-cyco ,
this should help explain it for me.
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm The disc are made different. cheap ones are said to be CMC and high quality are MCC
This is a great guide with more than enough information on DVD's
Now i am not saying that all media that is listed as bad actually is or will wear out your laser. I am just saying that it can.
Like i always use Philips 8X DVD-R, they work every time and have worked great for me for years. they are CMC media. But since the bottoms are dark purple the PS2 reads them great.
From what i have been told the lighter the bottom, the harder it will be for the laser to read it. and that does cause some read errors. Like silver bottom CD's, my PS2 hates them and has trouble playing some of them.
I will never claim to know all the in's and out's of the whole matter, but from reading up on media and reading these posts for a while now many people have made the same statement i did about bad media wearing out a laser faster, causing read errors, and discs that stop working after being used for a while.

why would you post that crap article if you yourself dont listen to its advice.he said the discs you use are garbage,so therefore would be one of the discs that can ruin your ps2.but yet you didnt listen to him.but you support his opinions(because i dont think there was much fact in there)he had to say.i mean could you possibly contradict yourself anymore than you already have?does he really think people are going to go out of their way to get one of those discs on his holy grail list of dvdrs?come on now,he was probably getting kick backs for writing that article(though im sure he would be smart enough to deny it).im not trying to start an argument, but you convinced me that people have no idea of what they are talking about when it comes to dvdrs and which is the best or worst.they prey on people that trust everybody that claims to be an expert.
