I have read and re-read the difernt threads and I'm still having problems burning PS2 games (not onr right yet). I'm fustrated and my kids....well just trying to please them. Here's what I got: Magic 3 plus, DVD Dycrpter and panasonic DVD burner 8x. I tried burning at 1x and 2x speed on Maxell R+ after using memorex + and -. I got the swiping tool down. The screen goes to NOW LOADING then nothing. I really need some help. Willing to give my number out so we can keep the typing down.

Jay

what is magic 3 plus? is that a chip?
If it is a good one you should not need swap magic at all.
As far as discs, Maxcell is OK, and Memorex just suck.
If you have a V5 PS2 or above it should play either but i have had better luck with -R
I use mostly Philips 8X DVD-R discs, and have also had good luck with TDK 4X DVD-R
heard good things also about Verbatim.

Also if you have not already try updating the firmware for the burner. DVD Decrypter can search for you. Go to tools the drives then search for firmware.
That sometimes helps with problems.
Also may try burning at 4X if you are using 8X discs.

OK, I just have one thing to say. Forget freakin' DVD Decryptor, ISO Buster and all that crap! Get Nero! I've been burning all my games with Nero and have made no coasters at all!
Simply choose DVD, Copy a DVD, choose On-the-Fly if you have 2 disk drives (the other people have been pulling your leg if they say you should use images), and choose the highest writing speed possible that your blank DVD can burn at (example, 4x blank DVDs should burn at 4x). Nero automatically limits the burning speed to the highest your DVD burner can burn at (example, if your DVD burner could burn up to 12x, Nero would limit the speed up to 12).
I'm serious. Stop being such a cheap-skate, using all this freeware, and stop all the hassle with Nero!!!

If your PS2 cannot play your backups, and you've already modded it, then try banging at the wall 7 times. It will have a 1/1,000,000 chance of playing them.

@ simstuff

That's the second time I've seen you post that. There is no point in shelling out for Nero just for PS2 Games.. DVD Decrypter is good enough, it does the job and it's freeware.

Ok a few things i need to mention.
What works for one person will not always work for you. should be the first rule in burning.
1. I have both Nero and DVD Decrypter, i never use Nero.
I have used DVD Decrypter for a few years now and it works great for games and there is not many programs out there that are as easy to use.
2. buring on the fly is the worst method to make back ups with, it is not nearly as reliable as burning them to your hard drive and then to a dsic (making and burning an image).
3. Getting good media is an important part of burning. Some crappy media may work but will stress out your laser and may cause it to burn out prematurely.
4. Writing at the highest speed is also not a great idea, once again it may work but if you ask around most people will tell you to set DVD Decrypter to 1X, or 4X tops
5.make sure you use good media for games

And if you don't believe me you can ask around on the forums here and i am sure you will get the same answers from people who have made many back ups and know what they are talking about. Nero may work just fine, i know people who use that too, but more people here use DVD Decrypter than most other programs combined.

Thanks. I find my Nero6 memorex suite not so user friendly....as a matter of fact not sure how to burn with it. I'll try using different DVD R- media unless you can help me with Nero. I also have updated the firmware. If I understand it correctly, after downloading it I just use DVD Decrypter as I usually burn?
Thanks,
Jay

Tutorial on burning with DVD Decrypter to make your life easier.
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html

Don't use Memorex disc, they are just crap. Save those for doing movies and get some Verbatim or Philips 8X DVD-R discs for games.

let us know how your DVD Decrypter works for you. By the way you can download it here in the software section, the DVD Decrypter homw page i think has been shut down, or is under new control so i would not download it there.
Make sure the automatic update feature is turned off, as there will be no more versions released due to the fact that the guy who made it got shut down.

update your burners firmware is my last suggestion.
And so you know after downloading the file (firmware) to your hard drive you just open it by double clicking the file and it will most likely ask you if you want to do this and then do the update.
If you have done that i am out of ideas
I use DVD Decrypter all the time, and Philips 8X DVD-R discs.
Sony DRU-700A burner ( one of the very best i have ever used )
they work every time with both my V7 fliptop and Swap Magic 3.3
And my V12 with DMS4 Pro

Steimy I think I solved it. It's the game...Sonic Heroes. I tried to burn another game and it worked. Now to my next question: I guess not all games will be able to be burned? What's this thing about patches to get the burned games to work?

Mik3h, do they still need fixes? I thought that was back in the days of version 2.0?
I have not had to patch a game since i got 3.3
The only thing it says there for Sonic Heros is TOC?
jaylita, since you have Nero have you tried rebuilding the ISO to see if that would work? Not sure about Sonic Heros but some games also have dummy files that have to be replaced. You will be able to tell by using ISO Buster to open the ISO file.
The is a rebuilding guide on my page for both Nero and games with dummy files.
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#rebuilding
if there are dummy files do what the guide says then rebuild using the first guide and Nero

Nope, unfortunately not.

Well.. you could but it would be a waste of time, because what would you use to boot up the backup? :P

Step 4.
Open up Nero burning rom and create a new UDF/ISO dvd (It's the last one in the list). Drop all the game files into Nero in the same order as it is listed in Isobuster. Just keep Isobuster open as a reference when you do this. Nero will change the order of the files graphically, however they burn in the order that you dropped them in.
I think you forgot the settings for That Compilation. I know that if you miss even one of them, the game will not boot.

sonic heroes needs to be rebuild it contains a dummy file which causes the game to not boot with swap magic. i you have a modchip it wouldn't be a problem. for rebuilding just use a forum search and you will find some guides on that. i hope that my info is of some use to you.
