I had the 2600XP (now in my 2nd PC) before my 3200Barton, I have noticed little difference in gaming. You need at least 1gig RAM & a decent graphics card. You CPU is well capable of handling ANY game out there.
I assume you are using XP as your OS. XP uses nearly ALL of your RAM just to tick over! You NEED more memory. Your mobo will take 3gig of PC3200. (I have the same MOBO).
Until you do that you will have little joy!

I have this card in my PC, riva tuned to 16 pixel pipelines & all but 1 vertex shader;

yeah this one sounds good... But sometimes when i run some programs the CPU shows 100% on the task manager... is that normal?

yup, the 2800+ is a fantastic CPU, even more so since i went to 1GB a while back..
The only thing that stresses mine out is the heat, i've cooled it as best i can without it sounding like a tropical storm, it's just the summer tipping it over the edge.

i forgot to say, i won't overclock mine, in fact i won't even leave PC on unattended in case the CPU fan was to fail, instant fire.

Depends on the process that you PC is doing. Mine can get up to 100% at times. Again, you need a graphics card for your gaming & at least 1gig RAM!
You can get 2gig Corsair here;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Corsair_XMS.html

It has good latency timings too (CAS 2). If you are serious about a gaming system you will be a lot happier if you invest a little. You will reap the rewards, I can guarantee it!

My 2600 ran at 173FSB (default with the PC2700RAM I had was 166FSB) & was very stable. You really do have a nice chip. If you do not want it, I will give you a few dollars/pounds to take it off your hands!!! LOL!

I am VERY tempted to get that memory for my PC! I only spent £400 on her a shoft while ago (3200 barton, 75gig raptor HD, 1gig PC3200 RAM & that card). So I am holding back. I do not know how long I can resist though! AARRGGHH!!

Nice one on the unlock pulsar, jammy sod !!!

I was going to get that exact card, but my mate drove down to Overclockers and I was impatient, so 3 of us had Leadtek versions, I got all my vertexs, but couldnt squeeze any of the pipes.
One set stopped windows loading and the other set gave me massive corruption in-game. Still, nice cards for the cash I think :) and a hell of a jump from my GF3 TI200 64mb.

Jessica01, the 2800+ will be fine for games, I have a 2500+ and have just had BF2 running very nicely. I think the guys have given you the best advice...more RAM and a decent GFX card.

Cheers.

I think it was only the Gainwards that you had the possibility of tuning. My mates' brother only managed 12 pixel pipelines, but all vertex shaders. It is a lottery!
