just wondering, does increasing the level of aa in games need more ram or does the aa only use the cpu/gpu.
if i play battlefield 2 on 4xaa then it is fine but if i go up to 6x then the game freezes up a lot as if it is loading textures out of the ram, especially at the start of maps.
i always thought the ram made no difference to aa but once the freeze-ups go away after 3- 4 minutes of running about the map, the fps is good so i cant see it being the cpu or gfx card struggling.

Your AA & AF settings are controlled by your graphics card. I can run Far Cry at all max game settings, 8x AA, 16x AF, image on high quality, @ between 25 - 50fps. What frame rate do you get when you run the game?

jonni3, it runs better with settings on medium, but i don't want medium :)
and pulsar, i haven't measured the fps yet but if i had to guess i would say with max details and 4xaa @ 1280x960 its average of about 40 - 60fps
with 6xaa it probably does a little lower, maybe 5 - 10fps less but that is when the freezing up problem starts.
Of course it is playable just fine on 4xaa but i just wanted to know why it began behaving like this at 6x and acting like there is not enough ram when i was pretty sure the aa was nothing to do with how much ram there was.

BF2 is a proper resource whore of a game, i read in a different forum it was designed with the newer 512mb cards in mind, i use a 6600GT 128 and have to have the details at medium, also the ranked servers are really laggy
