Ok my friend burns and he lent me the movie the girl next door. When backing it up at about 98% its comes up with an error message saying cyclic redunacy error. Im guessing its because of the dvd being a little scratched. It screws up during the credits at the end of the movie. All i care about is the movie its self. I did re-author mode in shrinker and the credits are part of the main movie... How can I back up just the movie or what else could I do to back it up?
Thanks for the help..

Hi there,

Open up DVDShrink, and select Re-Author.

Now drag your 1st selection to the window on the left.

If I recall, Right-Click on the selection and I think it's from there. You should see Start/End frame selection or something like that.

Hello, its not working...As soon as i drag the part I want over I try to right click while still holding down my mouse on the movie part i want but it doesnt work. So I drop the movie on the left side so then I can right click it to click start/end frames but It already starts backing up and I've tryed pressing pause but I still cant click any thing when A movie is backed up Then the error message comes up and then I cant click start/end frames........

Just move the movie over to the left pane and then click the little blue arrows(start end frames) this opens up a window with start end sliders.Move the sliders to where you need them and click ok.

As soon as I move the movie over to the left side it automatically starts backing up... So then I cant click anything... I know the arrows your talking about but instead of being blue they are grey so I cant click them... I think its because you need to move the movie to the left pane which I cant do because it starts to back up automatically then when backing up fails so it stays on the right side and not on the left...
Thanks for your help I appreciate it...

Is it actually backing it up or is it just doing the quick analyze?

During the quick analyse it keeps coming up with a data error usually around the 98-100% part.

Sounds to me like the disc itself is on bad media, and backing it up is going to be a problem as I stated earlier.

So my last question is on a quick analyse can you start/end frames and also what about using decrypter I heard you can use decrypter and it will just ignore the error or something????????????/
thanks

take a moment to fine-tune your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.4.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove IFO PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO, Read Mode", "tick" "Remove IFO PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This is an excellent setting for dealing with lightly scratched discs which may cause reading problems. We're now finished with our settings here so click "OK." There's no reason to change these settings. DVDD is good ripper right out of the box, all we did is to give it some "teeth." (Lol :)

Under "Mode" we have a choice of either File or ISO Read to rip our DVD. I like to try it in the "File" Mode normally. When ripping in the "File" Mode, we want to create a folder named VIDEO_TS (written like that ~> case sensitive) as a destination location.

Then pick it up using DVD Shrink "Open Files" and process as usual. The main page S/B self explanatory - Now, go rip our happy heart out - :)

WHEN RIPPING A TROUBLESOME DVD or an episodel DVD, I use DVD Decrypter in the ISO Mode -

REASON: When you rip a DVD in the "File" Mode, you only copy the file structure. When ripping a DVD in the "ISO" Mode, you copy the entire disc just as it is. Every nuance, camera angle, etc.

When ripping in the "ISO" Mode, we want to create a folder to hold our ISO image files. You will have an .ISO file and a .Mds file. Not to worry, DVD Shrink makes picking up an ISO image as easy as pie. Open DVD Shrink and go to"File" - "Open Disc Image", "Browse" for the folder you created to hold your Image files and select the .Mds file. Yes I know, the size is very small and it seems that the entire DVD is held in the ISO file BUT everything will open fine. Let DVD Shrink pickup the file and then process as usual. If you want to use another proggy, you can use ISO Buster to change your ISO Image back to your VOB files, it only takes a second to convert them.

OK, iffin you need a new version (Jan. 05, '05)
Here it is - http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

That will help quite a bit.

nope it has to analyze it first, which should only take about 2 minutes or so, sometimes a little more, somtimes less.

Hello friends. It was asked above about Maxell disks. I purchased a few packages of Maxell +R media from Staple's online. I took a chance because I wasn't sure where the media was made. When my order arrived via UPS, I was so relieved to read the media is from Japan.
Although I'm very new to burning, the six backups that I made on my Plextor 716A handle this media wonderfully; no errors noted.
I also ordered some Maxell -R media at the same time, and it turned out to be from Japan also, and the burns are great on that too.

My Plextor is just a couple weeks old, so my burning is quite limited thus far. Excellent forum here! I've learned so much here on this great forum. Take care everyone..

@tommyo54

Glad to hear that the Plextor is working out for you, I love my Plexie too. Maxell disks are very good media, and Plextor does well with them. I also recommend Verbatim, which you can get retail. Also, Taiyo Yuden which is available online through

http://www.supermediastore.com
http://www.meritline.com
http://www.rima.com

all reputable. You can pick up 100 for about 30.00 when they are on sale and Plextor does very well with this media. Happy burning :~)

Hi arniebear... Yup, I'm slowly gettin' there little by little. I'm still experimenting with Shrink; that is where I'm experiencing the most difficulties right now. I try to remove unnecessary audio and narrations, but I still wind up with too much compression. I finally bought some Maxell +RW to toy around with, as I was making too many expensive coasters. The RW media will allow me the affordability to experiment a bit more, and then erase the disk.
But, I'm learning and making progress so I'm quite happy. Nice chatting with you again, arniebear. Oh, I just posted another post as I have been trying to locate a movie list; I can't find it anywhere. It is in the newbie forum; I wont double-post it here though... Maybe somebody will know which list I'm trying to find.
Thanks arniebear; talk to you later on.. I'm gonna head over to the other post and see if there are any replies there.
