Major Bittorrent Problem

Well, I have been trying to set up bittorrent for a week now. I read posts and everything and still no luck. I have a WRT54G linksys router and my cable service provider is optimum online. I tried running bittorndao and bittorrent but i would get the yellow circle suggesting i have problems with my ports. My speeds would never top 5kb and it would go very slow. I check on that grc site and I checked if my ports were open. My ports were in stealth. I proceded into port fowarding from portfoward.com. I port fowarded and still the ports were in stealth. I cannot set up a static ip for my router i think because my internet service provider does not offer static ip hosting. I have tried everything. My ip address is 192.168.1.100. If anyone needs screenshots of anything ill post them. Please help, thank you.

It may be a probelm with your isp. I'm not very knowledgable about isps, however, so maybe someone would mind contributing? It may also be something with the software or even your ports. My setup originally was all messed up(would't connect), but I changed the ports and fiddled with different software, and it seemed to work itself out for some reason.
My client is bitcomet .59 with yahoo sbc dsl and a netgear router at one house and a linksys at the other(divorced parents, but very similar internet connections.

well anyone know the solution. If i do not have a static ip what can I do. My outside ip always remains constant. If I cannot set up a static ip then i cannot use bittorrent? Can anyone help me. As i said before i tried port fowarding for my 192.168.1.100 but it did nothing and my ports still remained "stealth".

Your router has what is called a decentralized zone some where in setting which means that your router and most if not all routers have nat function you need to go to the dmz tap in your router setting and type in your ip address so it will give you access to all the web sites. Second you would want to setup port forwarding and only use the ports that you are going to be using for bit torrent ie 65335 hope this helps
ps also check to see if you have windows xp service pack2 that the firewall is not active if it is disable it

that didn't help at all still same prob yellow button on BitTornado. in shields up port scanner it still says my ports are stealthed. what can i do since i don't have a static ip set up. do i have to have a static ip setup or is there any other way i can make my ports be open.

well anyway i set up the static ip on this comp and i forwarded the ports still with no luck. On shields up it still says my ports are "stealth". can anyone give a suggestion. i tried the dmz which is not really safe and it still says stealth. what can be the prob?

well it worked on my downstairs comp which was an xp sp2. But on my comp upstairs i set up static ip and i forwarded the ports and still no luck. It shows the yellow button. What can be the prob. well all i know is that , that my upstairs computer has 4 connections a local area connection which doesnt work if i enable it, a 1394 connection which i think does nothing i can enable and disable it and it does nothing same with the 1394 connection2 , and finally my internet is supported by local area connection 2. can this be the root of any problem?

Not sure if you've done this already, but it wasnt clear from the thread so here goes anyway:
You need to forward the ports on the router itself. Log in to the router by opening 192.168.1.1 in a browser. Find a link called "Applications and Gaming" In the "Port range forward" section, type in a name, a start and end for the port range, and the IP the port will be forwarded to (local computer, probably 192.168.1.100). Check the "enable" box and press "save settings"
You should be golden. Dont worry about your router getting a dynamic IP from your ISP, as long as you forward from the router it should work. Note that this only works if the internet connection is plugged into the correct socket on the back of the router (marked internet)
If you solve this, there may however be further problems. Bittorrent has a nasty tendency to kill the internet connection on wrt54g's. Read more about it here (and please post a sollution if you find one):

well of course i port forwarded, how else would it work on my basement computer. the only difference is that downstairs has xp sp2 and this comp in my room has sp1. I tried port fowarding for this comp but on shields up test it stills says my ports are stealthed. I have no clue what the problem could be. I even tried DMZ and still it says my ports are "stealth". The static ip is set up right,the as downstairs, so i do not understand why it would not work.

I am going to let everyone on a little secret. You know why your download speeds are slow? People limit their upload speed, which is your download speed. The only way to prevent this is put your upload speed to no limit.

I'm at my wits end as well !
Using the grc port probe resource ALL my ports show up as stealth.
I don't have a router and am connected to wanadoo.fr via a thompson usb ADSL modem. My nominal bandwidth is 2MB but I freaquently get better. I've tried a number of bittorrent clients and Azureus will get up to all of 15kbs download and complains that my port needs to be opened to enable decentralised tracking. My last try was 49153 - but no - I still get NAT errors. None of the knowledge bases or other resources seem prepared to tell me HOW to change a port status. They only tell me how to find out what its status is and what function IANA has and others have assigned to the port
I just don't know how to get at port status assignement
HELP !
